Story
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Great Romantic Fantasy

I really enjoyed this story and the twists and turns that came along. It’s easy to see why this book became a book community favorite. The audio narration was absolutely perfect and I cannot wait to continue the story.

Story
Kembral Thorne has a few hours away from her newborn, and she’s determined to enjoy herself at the year-turning ball. But when guests start dropping dead, she can’t help sniffing out trouble—she’s a Hound, after all. Especially when her professional and personal nemesis, notorious burglar Rika Nonesuch, is also on the prowl. Everyone knows you shouldn’t get involved with Echo games. Let alone one involving ancient Echo lords who can turn layers of reality into a gameboard with human lives for pieces. But as the ballroom grows stranger and more otherworldly, it’s clearly too late.

Doctor Who meets H.G. Wells
Reviewed: 01-17-25
While this book was not my preferred genre of reading, I can say that the story is very well-written with interesting characters and a unique fantasy world. Additionally, there were a few plot twists I was unable to predict. Melissa uses a fascinating mix of language and ways of living of the past, with fantastical and allegorical twists. If you are looking for the typical fae/complex magic system/romance focused fantasy, this may not be for you. If Doctor Who and H.G. Wells are more your style, definitely give this a try.

Story
Lady Theodosia Balfour has certainly gotten the short end of the stick—her stepsister, the newly crowned Princess Beatrice, is telling everyone in polite society that Theo, her sister, and their mother are evil, wicked, and horrid people who treated her like a slave. Though Theo knows this isn't exactly true, it seems her life is thoroughly ruined by the rumor. With the Balfour family estate on the verge of bankruptcy, Theo's only path forward is a forced betrothal to the Duke of Snowbell, a foul-tempered geezer who wishes only to use her as a brood mare for spare heirs.

Quirky and Fun
Reviewed: 01-17-25
Laura has taken the fairytale classic Cinderella and turned it into a magically emotional story about one of the ‘wicked’ step-sisters. I thoroughly enjoyed the perspective of Theo and seeing the story through her eyes. Our fairy godmother, Cecily, was fantastically sassy and unorthodox. The narrator was very pleasant to listen to.

Story
I am told my union to the crowned prince will determine the fate of the kingdom, but it isn’t my betrothed who haunts my dreams. It’s the half-breed prince who stands at his side. He is darkness and sin, and when he whispers promises of wickedness in my ear, I crave a man who I can’t have. Every thought I have is treasonous. The way my hands ache to touch him deceitful. Even my dreams make me a traitor to the kingdom I am sworn to protect. But when the kingdom is attacked, I am forced to make choices I’m not prepared for.
