Story
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

if you like a book that keeps you guessing this is it. I enjoy this kind. I struggle to read predictable stories & this one definitely isn't.
I only gave it 4 stars because it wasn't a page turner but still interesting.

In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it will take an all-too-earthbound intrigue to draw in the discerning heroine of Anna Lee Huber's latest mystery. It's not that Verity Kent doesn't sympathize with those eager to make contact with lost loved ones. After all, she once believed herself a war widow. But now that she's discovered Sidney is very much alive, Verity is having enough trouble connecting with her estranged husband, never mind the dead. Still, at a friend's behest, Verity attends a seance.

Good story awful narration.
Reviewed: 11-25-20
The narration of this story was so annoying I really had a hard time getting through the book.
Heather Wilds used the same cadence, tone and increased emphasis on the last word of a sentence for every statement and sentence in the entire story as if it were the only thing being said. The last word being said with increased seriousness as if it had some sort of special meaning whether it was "And they crossed the road." or "The bomb exploded."
I wanted to scream by the time I finished the book.
Does anyone in the publishing office listen to these stories before they publish them? I am so tired of buying a book & having a great story ruined by really bad reading.

Having solved the two murders that somehow fell in her path, Beatrice Hyde-Clare is on the lookout for a third. Story
As much as Beatrice Hyde-Clare relished the challenge of figuring out who murdered a fellow guest during a house party in the Lake District, she certainly does not consider herself an amateur investigator. So when a London dandy falls dead at her feet in the entryway of a London Daily Gazette, she feels no compulsion to investigate. It was a newspaper office, after all, and reporters are already on the case as are the authorities.

Story
Twenty-six-year-old Beatrice Hyde-Clare is far too shy to investigate the suspicious death of a fellow guest in the Lake District. A spinster who lives on the sufferance of her relatives, she would certainly not presume to search the rooms of her host's son and his friend looking for evidence. Reared in the twin virtues of deference and docility, she would absolutely never think to question the imperious Duke of Kesgrave about anything, let alone how he chose to represent the incident to the local constable. And yet that's exactly what she does.

Pretty good story line.
Reviewed: 05-08-20
The story structure was pretty much a repeat of the 1st book in the series but the descriptions of the people & scenery were excellent.
I almost didn't get this book because I found the narration so bad in the 1st book. This one is only a little better. It is stiff & stilted & the tones & inflections don't match what is described in the story. It sounds as if the person is reading the story for the first time & is just reading the words sometimes pausing in the middle of a sentence & then realizing the statement goes on to the next line.
I would like to get the next book but I'm not sure I can listen to the narrator again.
