Great story, narrator leaves much to be desired

The stories and plot are on point, my only gripe is why they would choose a narrator with that weird Midwestern accent lol. Most unsexy voice I can imagine

Story
Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.

Iffy narrator
Reviewed: 01-27-21
you can absolutely tell that this narrator has a passion for this story and gave his all to its performance. I, however found him to be irritating. Nearly all of the characters have very deep and often comedic sounding voices and when he sings any of the many songs in this book, it seems like he's about to burst into tears at any moment. Another drawback, which isn't the narrators fault but likely the technology available at the time as I believe this is an older recording, is that you can often hear moist mouth noises and excessive inhaling.

Story
A classic thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Michael Crichton, Sphere is a bravura demonstration of what he does better than anyone: riveting storytelling that combines frighteningly plausible, cutting-edge science and technology with pulse-pounding action and serious chills.

First time Crichton's writing got under my skin
Reviewed: 08-03-20
Excellent suspense mixed with Sci-fi. Only drawback is all the "he said, she said, they said, said said said said". None of this is helped by Scott Brick who seems to ruin every book I've heard him narrate. He makes every character sound sinister and whispery. Sort of takes you out of it when the tone of voice clearly doesn't match what the author intended.

The Martian meets Gravity when Army Pilot Vaughn Singleton, Earth’s last man, rushes to Area 51 in search of a spaceplane after he discovers the last woman is stranded on the International Space Station and barely alive - thus beginning a race against time. The event that wiped life from the planet started at the supercollider. It created a rift in space-time. The astronaut stranded aboard the space station, Commander Angela Brown, is a theoretical physicist who used to work at the collider.

Overblown
Reviewed: 06-21-19
A previous reviewer warned of shallow characters and overdone action sequences, I should have listened. This is the novel version of a crappy summer disaster flick. started out strong and I like the premise, but it becomes comical how things keep going so fantastically wrong for the antagonists. the narrators were great but it becomes annoying how they keep switching back and forth, especially when the male narrator has to perform the female voice and vice versa. steer clear.

Story
The philosopher asks: "Faced with the mutually exclusive choice between moral principle and the survival of your family, which is the correct path?" Philosophers love to pose such questions, and in the day-to-day struggle, such thinkers rarely attain to a level of relevance rivaling that of the simple hunger pang. Their careful considerations dissipate under the leveled gun. We do not feel their disapproving gaze when The Others draw near. When the world sends doom, the survivors do not hesitate. The survivors do what is necessary.

Clay has become so annoying. every other word is an obscenity which makes his rambling almost unintelligible. I'm all for a good well placed f*uck or c*nt. But I can barely tell what the hell he's trying to say half the time.

Really enjoyed this book! didn't hold as much suspense as the first novel, but on it's own it's pretty good. My only gripe is with the narrator. I had to speed up the audio to 1.25 just to make him sound like we was speaking at a normal human pace, and even then, he is very VERY nasal

The story was sort of like Law and Order, warcraft edition. It held my attention and was different than all the other Warcraft books. Tony only gripe was the deus ex machina conclusion, which in my opinion ruined an otherwise poignant and unexpected ending. That and the sloooooooowwww drawl of the narrator. I sped the playback speed up 25% and it still seemed off.
