A pact is sealed in secret behind the foreboding walls of Newgate Prison. In return for one night of unparalleled pleasure, a dashing condemned criminal consents to wed a beautiful heiress, thereby rescuing her from an impending and abhorred arranged union. This narrative was comprehensive, expressive and terrifying. I cannot say I 'enjoyed' this historic account, but feel very fortunate to have learned so much detail about slavery in the mid-1800s. The narrator is skilled & authentic.

I was upgraded to first class on a flight from London to New York. The food, champagne, and service were impeccable. The blue-eyed man sitting next to me, even better. He was suave and intelligent. We talked and laughed, and something clicked. Fate took over and the plane was grounded, and we had an unexpected stopover for the night. With no plans, we made our own.

Story
In her Audible Original A Short Drink of Water, Altman challenges the assumption that taller is better. Her journey to empower those at the short end of the stick (and why is it always the short end?) delivers a hilarious and heartfelt look at the differences between tall and short and how people seek to narrow them both physically and psychologically. You’ll meet people of every size and opinion in this deeply reported and richly comical ride through a world where every inch counts.

Slow to start, the formatting is a bit confusing at first. But, by the 3rd chapter it starts to make sense. I really like her writing style, and sarcastic wit! Thorough character development and vivid details make the story come to life. The narrator takes some getting used to, she is more monotone than I am used to.
