Outstanding Book!

David Baldacci is a wonderful author. The research he must of done for creating this novel was outstanding. I was filled with sadness in remembering how African Americans were treated back in those days. I could not stop listening. The books ending was quite surprising. The performance was also outstanding. Calamity of Souls is very worth the credit used. I am sure I will listen to this book again!

Excellent story. I always enjoy legal and courtroom drama books. Michael Stagg is an excellent author and presents these stories that seem to be so true to life.
I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of his Nate Shepherd novels. Narrator also did an excellent job. We all know how important a good narrator is to the success of a book.

Story
Adam Turner works the mid-dawn shift at his local radio station. From 12am to 6am, it’s his job to fill the airtime with old songs, inane chatter, and the occasional talkback caller. It’s a long way from his prime-time slot from over a decade ago, when he was a star in the making. Now there’s no producers, no billboards, no stakes, and not many listeners. His frequent callers are drunk students headed home from a night out, or long-range truck drivers. He is completely alone in the studio from midnight until dawn every night. And then one night at 12:45am, he gets a different kind of call.

Not a typical Grisham novel
Reviewed: 12-08-23
The story focus was the kidnapping of an American citizen making her a hostage for ransom. Certainly reinforced the fact that I never want to visit the Middle East. Lots of violent acts that they love to do and record on video while doing it. Glad I got through this book, had I known what it was truly about I would not have wasted a credit.

Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Disappointed
Reviewed: 08-31-23
I usually love John Grisham’s books but I was disappointed with this one. The beginning and the last few chapters were good but the middle part of the book regarding the war was very depressing and seemed to drag on and on. I actually found myself not even listening to those chapters and moved forward. The ending is when the reader finally learns why the main character committed the murder. The narrator was very good and did well with the different characters.

Story
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?
