Story
Freddy Stern, a twenty-one-year-old cashier, has lived a plain, albeit harsh life. Having been orphaned—twice—he's spent the last ten years working and staying out of trouble. His only aspiration is to save enough money to become an archhuman. His dream gets the jump on him when he barely survives a near-death encounter and finds himself in possession of 1% Lifesteal, a bizarre talent with numerous contradictions and just as many uses.

This is gritty and good. The author understands the nature of injury and torture. The character becomes rightfully paranoid and acts appropriately to where he is in his development. The world building is good, the big bads have clear motivations, great story telling. I’m looking forward to reading on.

This was the best one so far in the series. Keep them coming. I liked that it’s becoming a hard system as opposed to bending to the situation as needed. A system with firm rules is much more enjoyable to read about.

I get it, the author thinks big government is perfection and libertarians are idiots. Great litrpg and doesn’t back off the crunch which I do appreciate.

Story
Ajax is one of Earth’s most elite, a Paladin pilot, and trusted to fly the most advanced starfighters humanity ever produced. His carrier and the rest of the fleet have fallen back, the recent damage from the elven betrayal making it impossible to stay in the fight. He knows they’ll return, and they’ll treat this world to the same kind of plasma bombardment that the elves had inflicted on Mother Earth. The real problem for Ajax, though, is that he’s parachuting down onto it now, his arm broken.

Not a solid progression. I enjoyed it but it introduced a lvl up system where stats can be purchased with nanites then it just never goes into it again. I like litrpgs, be one or don’t just know I have more to options in the fantasy/sci-fi genre so don’t mislead me.

I listen to Litrpg books for the stats and loot. Plenty of great fantasy that isn’t litrpg. Lean into it. I’d like more focus on the cards and progression.

Great series. Will continue. Issue is this one jumps directly back in like I just finished the last but I need some reintroduction so I can recall what’s going on. If not make it on book. Bounced around a bit in the first half of book and was confusing. Finished strong.

This was shying away from litrpg, putting off dungeon upgrade info to take his GF on a date. This is one of the best set ups for cool litrpg in the genre right now and the main dude is too concerned with everyone’s feelings. Strong characters with strong character. Also lean into rpg.

This series has become my favorite. I like a few others nearly as much but 1 book every few years isn’t cutting it for them when JK brink puts them out so consistently. These books are consistently of high quality and long. I’m 100% satisfied with this author and the audio production.

I really shouldn’t have read the short book before this one. It gave away and directly borrowed from this book more than it was it’s own story and I won’t get any more of the .5 books or side quests. The main story is great but I’d avoid all books off the main story.
