Story
When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy’s most ruthless killers, Rebels, scoundrels, and thieves—breaks down in a distant part of space, its only hope appears to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party from the Purge is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge die in ways too hideous to imagine.

The performance was excellent and the story was a very fun Star Wars horror experience. I read it back when it came out, but I found listening this time around far more enjoyable.

Story
Han Solo should be basking in his moment of glory. After all, the cocky smuggler and captain of the Millennium Falcon just played a key role in the daring raid that destroyed the Death Star and landed the first serious blow to the Empire in its war against the Rebel Alliance. But after losing the reward his heroics earned him, Han's got nothing to celebrate. Especially since he's deep in debt to the ruthless crime lord Jabba the Hutt. There's a bounty on Han's head - and if he can't cough up the credits, he'll surely pay with his hide. The only thing that can save him is a king's ransom. Or maybe a gangster's fortune?

I enjoyed the story, the setup, the characterization and performance a lot. Fun twists at the end. It reminded me of a mix of Usual Suspects and Oceans 11.

Pretty bad story, with a good attempt by narrator at bringing it some life

I didn't like this book back when I first read it in the early 00's and I still don't.
While Hapes becomes important later in the EU (which I love), this book is skippable imo, in fact I recommend it. Basically the characterization was pretty terrible for the main heroes. Not sure that the author really understood how a relationship or male female interaction works. Perhaps he was an alien from the Unknown Regions. Han and Leia were both pretty out of character and awful to each other. Luke was way too powerful compared to RotJ before this book and the Thrawn trilogy after it. The author seemed to choose a...interesting... take on female characters, as the matriarchal Hapans and Dathomiri were evil shrews with uncomfortable sexual mores, Leia was flighty and awful to Han, and Han kidnapped her as though that was a perfectly normal thing to do. The whole thing was very odd to me. The author also introduced a mind control gun that was never, ever mentioned again in Star Wars media. Talk about a mcguffin. Basically it's sole purpose was to avoid Han and Leia having a normal dialogue in which she agrees to give him a chance or tag along on an adventure. Bizarre. The X-Wing series, which is great btw, rehabs the Warlord into a villian worthy of the franchise, but this book does him no justice at all.
Narrator was fine, she did her best with what she had to work with.

In the stunning finale of the epic Fate of the Jedi series, Jedi and Sith face off—with Coruscant as their battlefield. For the Sith, it’s the chance to restore their dominance over the galaxy that forgot them for so long. For Abeloth, it’s a giant step in her quest to conquer all life everywhere. Great but sad its over

Potential spoiler warning. Marc Thompson as usual doing a great job. His Boba Fett voice in this one sounded a bit more like his Goran Bevin voice from Legacy of the Force, but no biggie. Its a shame that we wont get the story continued under the new overlords. To me, the EU timeline is the only Star Wars canon and I miss it. Maybe one day Disney will sell it and the new owners will respect it more. One can hope! Happy with the characterization, despite Ben being a slight moron. Troy Denning gets a lot of flak from certain corners of the internet, but I enjoyed where he took this plot.

Story
From the Demon Dog of American literature comes James Ellroy’s Hollywood Death Trip. Dig into a quintet of highly stylized true crime that delves into some of the most notorious, unsolved, midcentury-Hollywood murders. Ellroy’s wicked baritone draws listeners into a series of hellacious crimes; beginning with the heartbreaking and gruesome murder of his own mother. Next, it’s the Karen Kupcinet Killing - her body, found strangled just days after JFK’s assassination. Beautiful Stephanie Gorman, a debutante killed by a stranger, made Los Angeles lock its doors at night. The series concludes with the salacious snuff of actor Sal Mineo, whose death is a fitting epigraph for a series set in “Hollyweird”.

Incredible

Loved it, binge listened in two days. Ellroy breathes life into old murders and describes places long changed. This work explores pieces of his own history, life and feelings on a topic that his entire life and much of his bibliography have revolved around: Los Angeles area homicides. Hearing it from the Demon Dog's own mouth is fascinating and adds another layer to the experience. A literal voice, THE literal voice I suppose, to his unique (and in my book, unmatched) writing style. Its got its own beat and its not for everyone, but if its for you, its for you.
