Story
Stanley Yelnats is under a curse. A curse that began with his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has since followed generations of Yelnatses. Now Stanley has been unjustly sent to a boys' detention center, Camp Green Lake, where the boys build character by spending all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are an awful lot of holes.

I hate to say it, but I’m tapping out. There’s too much evil scientist drama and not enough Wolverine. It may be true to the comics, but I bet the comics didn’t take hours of slow dialogue to get through.

I’ve been following Brian since I first got interested in politics. He is fair, well spoken, well informed, doesn’t resort to hyperbole for clicks and isn’t afraid to use naughty language when the situation calls for it. MSNBC will be infinitely more entertaining with his contributions.

Story
In a pulls-no-punches essay intended to provoke rational discussion, Stephen King sets down his thoughts about gun violence in America. Anger and grief in the wake of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School are palpable in this urgent piece of writing, but no less remarkable are King's keen thoughtfulness and composure as he explores the contours of the gun-control issue and constructs his argument for what can and should be done.

Story
A masterful, intensely suspenseful novel about a reader whose obsession with a reclusive writer goes far too far - a book about the power of storytelling, starring the same trio of unlikely and winning heroes King introduced in Mr. Mercedes. "Wake up, genius." So begins King's instantly riveting story about a vengeful reader. The genius is John Rothstein, an iconic author who created a famous character, Jimmy Gold, but who hasn't published a book for decades.

All good things must come to an end, Constant Listener, and not even Stephen King can write a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.

Story
The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

To this day, there is no greater authority on the Titanic than Walter Lord. He was given the great and rare privilege of speaking with countless survivors as he wrote this book, and it begins as soon as the ship hits the iceberg. I can’t recommend it enough if you enjoyed the Cameron film and want to learn the real story— which is infinitely deeper.

Reviewed: 02-05-22
For a book about vampire hunters, there isn’t much vampire hunting. The book drags a little too much for my taste, specifically a section where a character describes being seduced by a master vampire. I found myself checking to see how much was left.
