About this listen

Once he was a valued key operative in Canada’s special forces.... Now the man known only as Logan has fallen on hard times. Alcoholism, the memory of a disastrous mission in North Korea, and a dark secret known only to himself have all taken their toll on Logan’s tormented soul. Reduced to the level of violent drifter and petty criminal fleeing a murder rap, he is suddenly snatched and spirited to a research complex in the Canadian Rockies...to become a very special guinea pig in a super-secret biotechnology experiment.

Under the direction of the brilliant, unscrupulous, and enigmatic Professor, Logan begins an agonizing transformation process to harness his mutant powers and forge him into “Weapon X” - an unstoppable, indestructible killing machine, a bringer of mayhem with retractable harder-than-diamond steel claws and the ability to recover from any wound. But as Logan’s mind and body are invaded and tortured with agonizing procedures in an effort to gain total control over him, the Professor and his gifted team fail to recognize Logan’s unbreakable will, his secret heritage, and his greater destiny - with catastrophic results.

Perfect wolverine (weapon x) story

The narrator is great and if they ever get around to doing a weapon x movie this should be the blueprint

A good listen for any Wolverine Fan!

The one thing that made this book a bit more difficult.... When you read the book, you can visually see when the writer wants to trigger a memory. When listening to the audio book, obviously not quite the same. So, when you go, "The leaves crunch under his feet..." and it is followed up with a whole different place, time, and story, it can be a bit difficult to stay up to speed. Rather than that, I enjoyed this book greatly.

Boring.

I hate to say it, but I’m tapping out. There’s too much evil scientist drama and not enough Wolverine. It may be true to the comics, but I bet the comics didn’t take hours of slow dialogue to get through.

Way better than I expected!!

Read the story of Weapon X through many comics over the years. This brings it all together in a way that’ll have you on the edge on your seat…

Weapon x

This is a retelling of Logan’s origins. The novel was published sometime in the 1980s. I believe I read it back then. The narration is a little dry speed it up to 1.115 or 1.20 for a more enjoyable experience

Ok story, wooden performance

The story sounded more like “Fan fiction” than a seasoned writer, but wasn’t bad.

The performance sounded almost computer generated. Either that or someone with no knowledge of the book or its contents did a “cold read”. This may the the case as occasionally you’ll hear a line that sounds like it was recorded in a tiled room. Lots of echo.

If you’re a big fan of Logan in the Weapon X era, you may enjoy it.

Not impressed

I expected so much more than I got. This was very average. It seemed to me that this story could have been told in an hour or so, instead of the seven or whatever this is.

Great story, terrible performance

The story is the reason I finished the book. Narration was maddeningly bad to the point that I almost returned the book a few times. The narrator often emphasizes the wrong word and constantly pauses at random points in a sentence, mangling sentence structure and narrative flow. I have to wonder if he has ever actually listened to people talk or if he is so in love with his own voice that he just waits for people to stop talking long enough for him to start. If someone randomly saying ‘thee’ rather than ‘the’ is a pet peeve of yours, run now and never look back.
