Minor gaps
Reviewed: 04-25-25
The performance is fantastic. And the world building is decent… But has some gaps. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a plot that has twist and turns and this one has a couple that are really enjoying. But it also sprinkles in without rhyme or reason. It sometimes seems like the author isn’t sure where they want to bring the story and there are a lot of loose ends at the end of each book that never mentioned at the start of the next one.

Still amazing
Reviewed: 03-16-25
These books are well written. They usually have a twist or two and while the main character “wins” it’s never a total victory or unscathed. That makes the whole thing more real and enjoyable. I think this delivery was a bit rushed compared to some, so I think they can take their time with Harry’s inner thoughts in particular. But that can’t stop me from listening to more!

I liked this series. There have been some choices that didn’t make sense to me, but hey, I’m not the writer. Overall, the characters are interesting & the world unique. The performance is solid & I enjoy it. Otherwise I wouldn’t keep coming back for more! This book keeps my hopes up that the author will bring some of the loose ends back together. Keeping it simple may be the key to continued success.

The author and voice actor are both talented. Normally with this series, there are twists you don’t see coming. This one was more obvious, but still fun to listen to. The world was so captivating my 15 year old was exclaiming that he’d buy tickets to this imaginary faire.

Good, but not great..
Reviewed: 12-19-23
The storyline seems a bit rushed. You get some good world glimpses but no my a lot of details. I think it could’ve been stretched out to a longer series. The one major set back the protagonist has is neatly corrected without a lot of personal growth. It was enjoyable to listen to though and I’m sure many will enjoy it.

Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it. With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate. The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger. While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble.

How is it still this good?!?
Reviewed: 12-30-22
Most sequels can get tiresome. And a lot of books series of more than three volumes will have slow spots or rise and fall in quality. This series has been entertaining in multiple ways and hasn’t stopped from page one. I highly recommend it. But only for people who have a sense of humor! It isn’t as adventurous as some books or as dark, but the blend is 100% quality.

Story
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Fantastic!

The story synopsis doesn't do this book justice... A must read for table-top gamers or MMORPG gamers! This tale uses the overlap between fantasy & reality and the escapism/projection many of us delight in, to tell 2 stories at once. It is funny, quirky, exciting, mysterious, and practical. I loved it, heck - both my sons (ages 14 & 12) and my 44 year old brother have all listened to it and agree with my praise. The characters and world grow on you and are fully developed, the delivery is natural and consistent. The performer uses emotion, good inflection, and has really pleasing tone that doesn't become monotonous. My only small criticism is that I wish some of the female characters had more distinct voices. I sincerely hope you enjoy this book as much as I have - I'm on the last of the series and can't wait for more!
