Story
The galaxy is doomed. Monkeys may be clever and too stubborn to give up, but Skippy The Idiot Who Got Played knows the harsh truth: this is a fight he can’t win. The odds are not only stacked against him, he was designed not to win this fight. Maybe he can salvage some faint memory of the civilizations that inhabit the galaxy, but those beings are doomed. Doomed. Including the Merry Band of Pirates.

It was hard to imagine how Skippy and Bishop could prevent a return of the Elders and save the universe. Maybe you might think of a minor aspect of strategy along the way. However only Craig Alanson could dream up this plot structure! This was a very entertaining story that left no loose ends.
Frankly I believe there is room for a few great spin-offs.

Story
Lydia Quixano Pérez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco. She runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is, by and large, fairly comfortable. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier, the jefe of the newest drug cartel that has gruesomely taken over the city, is published, none of their lives will ever be the same.

Patton by Ladislas Farago has long been my favorite book on WWII. This was due to the author’s research and accuracy. But now this book has gone over the top. This is a must read for any student of history. It brings the war down to a personal level and concentrates on each member of Easy Company.

I had expected this book to be a good one but it was absolutely great. It is creative, innovative, fast paced and breathtaking. At times the suspense was intense. At other times I found myself horrified. Then I was in tears.
I sincerely hope that some director and producer options this for a movie. I will now download the other 4 titles from this series.

Story
The freeway is coming. It will cut the neighborhood in two. Construction has already started, pushing toward this corridor of condemned houses and cracked concrete with the momentum of the inevitable. Yet there you are, in the fifth house on the left, fighting for your life. Ramey, I. The victim of the bet between two manufactured gods: the seductive and lethal Roxy (Oxycontin), who is at the top of her game, and the smart, high-achieving Addison (Adderall), who is tired of being the helpful one, and longs for a more dangerous, less wholesome image.

I can only hope that the Secretary of State and Joint Chiefs read this book. They should make this cautionary tale required reading in High School.
If this incredibly well thought out and very possible future outcome doesn’t scare you then nothing will. Anyone that reads or listens to 2034 would gladly join a demand for the US government to form a Cyber Force. Dear God why don’t we have one now!

You get to personally know each of them. You mourn for those who die and cry for those that survive. This is a well researched collection of war adventures tied together by one submariner.

Spanish Civil War story echoes Ukraine today
Reviewed: 03-01-22
This book is very relevant today. The Spanish Civil War of the 1930’s seems far away. Yet the invasion of the Ukraine has slready resulted in many acts of courage and tragedy that echo this story. We have already seen one young Ukrainian hero sacrifice his life to blow up an important bridge.
I strongly recommend this classic but timely book to everyone

Story
The citizens of Azurvale are starting to feel the pressure. War with the Empire to the south is imminent, and there's talk of the city's adventurers being drafted into the campaign. Though this conflict seems inevitable and promises to be horrific, the common folk can do little but act like there's nothing wrong. Rather than lose sleep over something so wildly out of their control, they instead worry about tiny, personal, inconsequential issues. However, the people of Azurvale have yet to find out that their capital is already under threat.
