Love Story with philanthropy and life lessons
Reviewed: 07-14-24
This is the second story in this series by Abby Jimenez. I’ve enjoyed learning about her characters and listening to the love stories unfold from both the male and female characters’ perspectives. I also appreciate the life lessons on abusive and narcissistic personalities. Great summer story!

Story
Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Satisfying Romance story
Reviewed: 06-19-24
I felt the story was tailored to a younger generation of adults who express themselves and interact regularly on social networks. While it took a few chapters to get into the story, I did enjoy reading about the challenges the characters faced and felt satisfied with the ending.

Impactful story highlighting the women who served during Vietnam
Reviewed: 05-19-24
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book and as a female service member, I can appreciate the difficulties the characters faced throughout the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in understanding the social and political dynamics during this period of American history. Bravo to Kristin Hannah for her well-researched and poignant account of three women from vary different backgrounds who chose to serve and make a difference during the Vietnam era.

Heartwarming story about sisters and finding one’s calling
Reviewed: 05-02-20
Excellent story and narration! The story takes place in India during the late 1940’s and highlights the challenges Indian women (especially working class) faced. I enjoyed the personal journey each of the main characters underwent while having to choose between personal desires and family needs. I definitely recommend this book to others who enjoy historical fiction and stories about overcoming the odds.

Steadman does a good job of building up the plot and drawing us into the story. I still felt the ending was a bit too tidy given the scenario and personalities involved; however, I do recommend this story to other readers who enjoy suspense stories.

Story
Laurie is sure love at first sight doesn't exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there's a moment of pure magic...and then her bus drives away. Certain they're fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn't find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they "reunite" at a Christmas party, when her best friend, Sarah, giddily introduces her new boyfriend: the man from the bus.

A drama-filled yet heartwarming story

I enjoyed this story, especially seeing the characters mature and figure out what they really wanted out of life. My main criticism is the “love at first sight” connection the story hinges on. I find it hard to believe someone can develop strong feelings for an unknown person after a single glance. I think the love story would have been more powerful if it was developed differently.

Forty, chronically single, and up an extra 20 pounds, TV news producer Stephanie Krikorian fell victim to the Great Recession, finding herself suddenly unemployed. One unwanted pregnancy away from being a Lifetime Original Movie, Stephanie had to reinvent herself...and fast. So, to keep her head above water, she started ghostwriting self-help and diet books for a variety of well-known experts. However, she didn't just write each book she took on, she lived it - chanting, journaling, reflecting, reframing - whatever it took to get deep into the heart of each project.

Disappointed with focus on self indulgence
Reviewed: 09-04-19
I got excited about this book after seeing comments by Stephanie in Gretchen Rubin’s blog about finding happiness. While I appreciate Stephanie’s willingness to open up about her personal journey, I felt she came across as complainy and spoiled. I couldn’t connect at all with her so-called dilemmas except for losing a job, which I’m sure is tough. I’ve lost a parent and have had to face much more difficult life challenges as a working mother, so, I really struggled with finding empathy for Stephanie’s frivolous spending spree to find self satisfaction with life. I also felt the narrator needed to sound older to give Stephanie more credibility.

Miller did a fantastic job of addressing very human and painful situations women must face from longing for a father’s approval to letting a child grow up and go off into the world. I would definitely recommend this story to others. The audio version was also well done.

Story
Mark, Todd, and Zola came to law school to change the world, to make it a better place. But now, as third-year students, these close friends realize they have been duped. They all borrowed heavily to attend a third-tier, for-profit law school so mediocre that its graduates rarely pass the bar exam, let alone get good jobs. And when they learn that their school is one of a chain owned by a shady New York hedge-fund operator who also happens to own a bank specializing in student loans, the three know they have been caught up in The Great Law School Scam.

Entertaining with a few too many unrealistic twists
Reviewed: 11-13-17
This story, though somewhat far fetched, definitely kept me engaged. I liked the intense plot twists and the character development, but felt the conflicts were resolved a bit too easily.
I also liked the level of detail put into lead characters like Mark and Zola, but felt more personal detail and background could have been given to other characters in the story like Todd and Gordon. I really felt the DHS and ICE took a beating in the story and wonder if the information was based on actual situations or just a dramatization of the deportation process non citizens must go through.
Overall, not a bad story.
