Story
Peter Macdonald Blachly takes us on an amazing adventure, documenting the 17 years he spent in a spiritual cult, while providing candid insights into the circumstances and conditions that made him vulnerable to manipulation by a charismatic sociopath. His understanding of psychology and human weaknesses, and the lessons he draws from his own experiences are universal, making his memoir highly relevant today. The book provides a riveting account of Blachly’s introduction to yoga, his arranged marriage, and a thrilling and entertaining view of India during the 1970s and 1980s.

A Prequel to Breath if Fire
Reviewed: 01-18-25
The HBO documentary Bresth of Fire left me wanting more. Who are these people and how do they do it? Before there was Guru Jagat there was Peter the sincere follower of Yogi Bhajan. This book answers so many questions. It even draws back the curtain on the overlap of cults and multi level marketing and gives a peek into the guru culture in India. Brutally honest, valuable insightful introspection on the traits that made him both vulnerable to manipulation and a successful cult follower. Transferrable to so many other predator situations blooming on the Internet. The author remains a multitalented musician artist and storyteller and, unlike Guru Jagat, I never stopped rooting for him.

Story
This collection of Buk's grimmest diaries gives an insight into the noir and brutal Los Angeles that Bukowski observed and lived so well. He was a legend in his time: a madman, a recluse, a lover...tender, vicious...never the same. These are exceptional stories that came pounding out of his violent and depraved life - horrible and holy. You cannot listen to them and come away the same again.

Story
I’ve been in this life for fifty years, been trying to work out its riddle for forty-two, and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last thirty-five. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel, and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me. Recently, I worked up the courage to sit down with those diaries.

I was surprised to learn that McConaughey was a good student and himself a terrific story teller. I got my son hooked on this book by starting him off with the story about the red sports car. From there we were off to Australia. I was never a fan but I am now. This is a terrific book for boys.
