Story
It’s 1852 and Margaret Lennox, a young widow, attempts to escape the shadows of her past by taking a position as governess to an only child, Louis, at an isolated country house in the west of England. But Margaret soon starts to feel that something isn’t quite right. There are strange figures in the dark, tensions between servants, and an abandoned east wing. Even stranger is the local gossip surrounding Mrs. Eversham, Louis’s widowed mother, who is deeply distrusted in the village.

Story
Since Stephen Porges first proposed the Polyvagal Theory in 1994, its basic idea-that the level of safety we feel impacts our health and happiness-has radically shifted how researchers and clinicians approach trauma interventions and therapeutic interactions. Yet despite its wide acceptance, most of the writing on the topic has been obscured behind clinical texts and scientific jargon.

Helpful primer on polyvagal theory

This is a great introduction for anyone interested in the science of how our nervous system works in regard to our emotional safety and relationships with others. The narration feels a little stiff, and I genuinely thought it was an AI voice initially.

Story
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Stephen King needs a better editor

I loved the films and wanted to read the source material. Great performance by the voice actor. But so many things in the book don’t hold up over time, and Stephen King is one of the most long-winded authors out there. I say save your 44+ hours and enjoy something else.

Such a good telling of the Carmilla story. Wonderfully acted by Rose Leslie, Phoebe Fox, David Tennant, and others. My only regret is that it wasn’t longer and more developed.
