I love Penny Marshall!!!
Reviewed: 04-19-25
I love Penny Marshall!! She’s one of the most iconic stars and directors of all time. Reading this was an inside view of her process and various films and career works we all know and love. I loved getting inside scoops on LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY, growing up Marshall (her brother is the legendary director Garry Marshall. Not that we forget, but you are overwhelmed with how much Penny’s touch is on our culture. Films like A LEAUGE OF THEIR OWN, BIG, RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS, PREACHER’S WIFE, AWAKENINGS…. The woman was a force of nature!!!
Her strong Bronx wit is all over this book too which I fell in love with on every page. This is Penny in her purest form!!

Story
Millions of viewers know and love Bob Saget from his role as the sweetly neurotic father on the smash hit Full House, and as the charming wisecracking host of America's Funniest Home Videos. And then there are the legions of fans who can't get enough of his scatological, out-of-his-mind stand-up routines, comedy specials, and outrageously profane performances in such shows as HBO's Entourage and the hit documentary The Aristocrats.

Story
Help Wanted: Grumpy mountain man seeks baby momma. Job is an incubator position only. Surrogate must be impervious to grunting as the form of communication and nosy brotherly neighbors. Rustic mountain range housing available upon request. I wanted to pummel my irritating brothers when they posted their own version of a wanted ad to help me with my life. But I can’t fault the results once the right woman lands in my lap. Becoming a single father is not a decision I made lightly. In fact, it’s the biggest decision of my entire life. Which is why when I interview Trista, I know she’s perfect.

Felt good reading this again!!
Reviewed: 02-11-25
Read this book years ago when it first came out in 2011! It touched me deeply enough to send an email to Florence Henderson and to my surprise, she wrote back! This started a pen pal relationship, we became Twitter pals back when it was cool space and chill to connect… and also occasional phone chatter through the years until her unexpected passing in 2016.
I miss her very much, and reading her memoir (while listening to the audiobook which she of course narrates herself, felt good to hear voice again. 🥲 5 STARS for that alone!
RIP & lots of LOVE, “Flo”.

Story
In 2002, Bill Zehme landed one of the most coveted assignments for a magazine writer: an interview with Johnny Carson—the only one he’d granted since retiring from hosting The Tonight Show a decade earlier. Zehme was tapped for the Esquire feature story thanks to his years of legendary celebrity profiles, and the resulting piece portrayed Carson as more human being than showbiz legend. Shortly after Carson’s death in 2005 and urged on by many of those closest to Carson, Zehme signed a contract to do an expansive biography.

I’m still waiting for that definitive Carson biography.. I feel like this didn’t even scratch the surface, and really doesn’t tell you anything new. What you already know of Carson is in this book. Doesn’t really cover a deep insight into the history of the Tonight Show or his full tenure. It’s very fragmented.
