Good and terrible

Well, if you want to read a book that doesn’t have an ending, here is one for you. Yes, a big cliffhanger. Will I get the next book to see how it will end? Nope. I don’t want another cliffhanger. I have many more books to choice from. However, Ray Porter is great!

Ex-Army paratrooper Griffin “Fin” Brooks thought he left danger behind when his battlefield injuries forced him to pursue a new career in marine biology. But one fateful night off the coast of South Africa, a ship nearly crashes into him and his loyal golden retriever, Jacques. Not just any ship. A starship. Though its alien pilot is dead, the rare extraterrestrial animal inside is not. Fin learns the creature is being smuggled across the galaxy when a pair of interstellar visitors respond to the crash. Wordie
Reviewed: 10-21-24
I found the story enjoyable. I also like all the characters. The narrator was ok. However, I found the book could be reduced in size because it was so wordie. I got tired of that quickly. I’m not sure if I get next book or not. I do see it is smaller.

Charlie Travers didn’t ask to be the leader of a rebellion…but no one else wanted the job. Now that he’s gathered an army and armed them with the deadliest starfighter ever made, the legendary Vanguards, he just needs one more thing: someone who knows how to fly the things. Unfortunately, no one has been behind the stick of a Vanguard in hundreds of years, since the end of the war that threw the galaxy into chaos. Their only hope lays in the legends of a crashed ship, a fighter crew frozen in stasis for centuries.

Predictable story

The first of this series was very enjoyable; however, right off the bat you knew where this story was going. I plowed through it. I also found this one very wordy. It probably could have been shortened greatly.

I felt the book was ok. It was an interesting story. However, after listening it on Audible, I felt the book could have been 30% shorter. I sped the speed up to even enjoy the narrator. I couldn’t even figure out who the main character. It was a creative story.

Story
A raccoon bite on the arm doesn’t seem that serious, but it soon becomes a life-or-death medical crisis for Melissa Loomis. After days of treatment for recurring infection, it becomes obvious her arm must be amputated. Rewired is the inspirational, miraculous story of Dr. Ajay Seth’s revolutionary surgery that allows Melissa to not just move a prosthetic arm simply by thinking, but to actually feel with the prosthetic hand, just as she would with her natural arm. This resulted in what others have recognized as the world’s most advanced amputee.

Story
The four dead guards didn’t concern Mitch Rapp as much as the absence of the man they’d been paid to protect. Joe Rickman wasn’t just another foot soldier. For the last eight years Rickman had ran the CIA’s clandestine operations in Afghanistan. It was a murky job that involved working with virtually every disreputable figure in the Islamic Republic. More than a quarter billion dollars in cash had passed through Rickman’s hands during his tenure as the master of black ops and no one with a shred of sense wanted to know the details of how that money had been spent.

I have listened to a number of Jack Campbell’s books and have really enjoyed them; however, I found myself disappointed with this book. I could never like the main character. She wanted to kill anyone, even her friends, who disagreed with her. I am really disappointed. I was really looking forward to these books.
