Awesome new addition to the series!

This was an excellent book. It's an absolutely thrilling and cohesive continuation of Sotia Lazu's Cherry Vampire series. This sequel was as good as the first book in this series but it also has an entire new level of complexity and emotion between Cherry, Alex, and Constantine. I can't wait for the next installment to be released!

Darynda does it again!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
The plot definitely kept me interested because I listened to the entire book nonstop until I finished it. Darynda Jones is one of the few authors that can make me laugh out loud, multiple times in each novel. Her comedic timing is excellent. She has created such likable and relatable characters in an urban fantasy series that it's easy to forget some of the more fantastical abilities that the main character, Charley Davidson possesses. Charley could be the girl next-door or your hilarious best friend that just so happens to also be the Grim Reaper.
Which scene was your favorite?
I love almost every scene that Charley and Cookie are bantering in. They crack me up I love Cookie and her dry sense of humor.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were a few scenes that moved me but without giving too much away, the scene with Jessica's nephew and Charley at the hospital was very emotional and touching.
Any additional comments?
I love this series and cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would probably recommend this book to a friend that enjoys young adult urban fantasy books.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
When I began this book, I had a difficult time getting into it. It took me longer than I expected to finally become interested in the story and invested in the characters. I did however, read the next book in the series and it was phenomenal.

Story
When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case.

Where does Dead Spots rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I would have to rank the Scarlet Bernard series somewhere in the upper middle among other books in the same genre. I really enjoyed this series. Melissa Olsen offers something new to the urban fantasy genre by introducing the null.
Who was your favorite character and why?
It's difficult to say who my favorite character is because there are a lot of characters that are definitely likable but there are just as many that are lacking. If I had to choose then it would have to be Scarlett. She is The perfect urban fantasy heroine- strong, smart, and independent to a fault but tends to be a little naïve at times. I believe that her naïveté has more to do with her age then her IQ. I can tell that she will continue to grow and learn to accept help from those around her.
What about Amy McFadden’s performance did you like?
I have listened to other books narrated by Amy McFadden but Amy does an excellent job with the Scarlett Bernard series especially with Scarlett's voice and her comedic delivery was spot on.

Story
Robin Mulcahey has always dreamed of being a big-time actress. As a college student, she took endless drama classes and finally snagged the lead of Maggie in Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Now, six years later, she's one of the country's hottest soap-opera stars. She's just won a Daytime Emmy for her portrayal of South Riding's bad girl, and now when it seemed life couldn't get any more perfect, she's wed Declan Blair, an up-and-coming Irish film actor. So what's the problem? Robin Mulcahey is dead.

A refreshing & original concept that surprised me!
Reviewed: 11-03-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Understudy to be better than the print version?
Absolutely! The narrator, Angie Hickman, breathes life into the material with a truly excellent performance. Each character could be understood clearly, but also differentiated enough from the other characters so that it was easy to follow the dialog and complex plot.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Understudy?
There are several moments in "Understudy" that are worthy of mention. The most memorable part of the book for me, would have to be the moment that Amy realizes that life isn't always greener on the other side. I know how cliché that sounds but for Amy, she really has a 'come to Jesus' moment and really begins to examine her choices and trying to separate herself from the Robin persona she has adopted and developed.
Which scene was your favorite?
I don't want to give away anything so I will be vague here. My favorite scene is when "Robin" and her brother and her father have a "heart to heart" at his office. I love that part!!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I actually did listen to this book all in one sitting. It's not a very long book and it does read really quickly once you get into it.
