Space Mafia & magic! Finally a scifi book with a twist. Richard Fox's "Tyr" series was excellent but I think this Tops it! He is an incredible author & his story telling & world building is amazing. Especially since the "GE" universe is taking a nose dive in my opinion, and very unfortunate.
Please keep this series coming Mr. Fox!!

One of the most feared Chicago mobsters, Sam Giancana, clawed his way to the top of the Mafia hierarchy by starting as a hit man for Al Capone. He partied with major stars such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe and did business with agents ranging from the CIA to the Vatican to the shah of Iran. When politician Joe Kennedy gave Giancana the chance to use mob muscle to get his son John elected, Giancana jumped at the task.

I am not surprised at the rampant corruption at the highest levels of government. And one would need to be an idiot to believe it no longer exists today. How much more power & money do these clowns need? When will it end? I understand I will never know the answers to these questions & it may never be revealed, at least in my lifetime.

In the summer of 1846, the Army of the West marched through Santa Fe, en route to invade and occupy the Western territories claimed by Mexico. Fueled by the new ideology of “Manifest Destiny,” this land grab would lead to a decades-long battle between the United States and the Navajos, the fiercely resistant rulers of a huge swath of mountainous desert wilderness.

This is an amazing book about history & I don't feel as if it was watered down. Kit Carson lived a life I can only dream about, interwoven with tales of bravery & sadness. I feel incredibly sad for all of the Native Peoples & I don't know what to do about it other than cherish their memory.

Story
In 2008 veteran journalist Evan Wright, acclaimed for his New York Times best-selling book Generation Kill and co-writer of the Emmy-winning HBO series it spawned, began a series of conversations with super-criminal Jon Roberts, star of the fabulously successful documentary Cocaine Cowboys. Those conversations would last three years, during which time Wright came to realize that Roberts was much more than the de-facto “transportation chief” of the Medellin Cartel during the 1980s, much more than a facilitator of a national drug epidemic.

This was a fantastic listen, especially with the author doing the narration. He conveys each character wonderfully & I could get a lot of distinction between each of them. I feel like this is "Dune" meets "Star Wars" (Star Wars before Disney). This is a home run I. my book & look forward to the rest of the series. I'm finally excited for a new series, which hasn't happened since "Galaxies Edge" or "Galaxy in Ruin". 5 stars all day!!

Good but not Great
Reviewed: 03-04-22
I am a HUGE fan of this series, with that said, I am not a veteran of the military. I love the smuggling, shady & seedy aspects of the books, not the blow by blow military stuff. I'm not saying it's bad, just not my cup of tea. Even though I had a little bit of a hard time getting through the latter half of the book doesn't mean I'm not looking forward to the next book & the next book, etc... Keep up the great work & I will see you in the next one!!
