Publisher's summary
The Imperium has reigned for 4,000 years...but are its days numbered?
For four millennia, the 16 planets of the Imperium sector have served as a bastion of peace against the Chaosic Regions. The Imperium's legacy can be attributed to the formidable military power of the Stratus, the enforcers of the Supreme and the Senate. However, as is often the case with empires, it is the smallest cracks that threaten to shatter their foundations.
Could this be the beginning of the end?
A dishonorably discharged stratusaire struggles to recall why he was expelled from the only life he has ever known. Now working as a mercenary on the sector's most profitable mining planet, he is haunted by mysterious memories. Before long, he finds himself in conflict with the very government he once served.
Can he survive being pursued by those he was once trained alongside?
Simultaneously, the royal heir to a planetary throne is confronted with the harsh realities of her family's rule. As a result of her curiosity, she finds herself entangled in matters of statecraft that surpass her status and experience.
Will she prioritize her family's legacy or the lives of those under her rule?

You define life or it defines you. In Shawn Speakman’s case, it was both. Lacking health insurance and diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2011, Shawn quickly accrued a massive medical debt that he did not have the ability to pay. That’s when New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks offered to donate a short story that Shawn could sell to help alleviate those bills—and suggested he ask the same of his other writer friends. Unfettered is the result: An anthology built in order to relieve that debt, featuring short stories by some of the best fantasy writers in the genre.

Story
In the beginning, the gods destroyed the world. Five hundred years later, things haven’t gotten much better for humans. The demigods that were left behind to guard over humanity have been using them as fodder for an endless civil war between themselves, and the humans just go on dutifully slaughtering each other, battle after battle. It’s not all bad, though. Perry McGown makes his living off those bloody, stinking battlefields. He works on a crew that reclaims all the spent shell casings. But if anyone found out that he was a deserter from the war, he’d be executed for heresy.

excellent compelling story
I do not like to necessarily reveal a lot of spoilers within a story. especially this one because it has such depth and flavor. it was a joy of read and enjoy to listen to. it was interesting that my wife downloaded it before I had a chance to. she also found it to be very engaging. this is Christopher hoppers first attempt at a narrated story of his own. voice actors are extremely talented giving the variety of voices they must use. just consider Jeffrey Kiefer and RC bray. here the author is also the narrator. what is enjoyable about this is not only the narration but also his use of his characters

Great story well performed.
I've read all of Hopper's books, this is the first one I've listened to. It's a lot of fun to listen too, and it's a great story.

Such a great listen
Hopper really does a great job bringing these characters to life. The amount of-characters brought to life was incredible. The diversity here was crazy good.
Wow!

The fight for human rights
I love the beginning of a story about a battle of human rights. Take a righteous rich family and make them question their beliefs about humans rights.

Great Book
Great book to share. The story is amazing, the description, narration. Mr. Hopper is awesome, not only writing but also now narrating. Thanks for such a great story

Awesome story!
This story was very well written, and Mr. Hopper seems to have found a new talent in narration. I was pleasantly surprised by how much life he gave the story. Very well done.

Quite a surprise!
I bought this audit book at random, intrigued by the snippet written. It was amazing.
The author reading the his own story was quite a delightful surprise! He had different voices for each character displaying not only his written talent but his entertaining talent. The story itself is well thought out. Great world building details along with character growth.
Definitely give this story a try, you will not be disappointed.
