Story
Sam Hill always saw the world through different eyes. Born with red pupils, he was called “Devil Boy” or Sam “Hell” by his classmates; “God’s will” is what his mother called his ocular albinism. Her words were of little comfort, but Sam persevered. Sam believed it was God who sent Ernie Cantwell, the only African American kid in his class, to be the friend he so desperately needed. And that it was God’s idea for Mickie Kennedy to storm into Our Lady of Mercy like a tornado, uprooting every rule Sam had been taught about boys and girls. Forty years later, Sam, a small-town eye doctor, is no longer certain anything was by design.

Who am I? I've forgotten the answer to that question long ago. Ever since I ran from that house, so desperate to escape, I left with only the clothes on my back and socks on my feet. After that day, I've only ever walked in stolen shoes.

Not sure how I ended up with this one. I guess because the description didn't mention that there's a sex scene every 2 minutes. I have no problem with descriptive sex scenes in audiobooks, but there was so much of it that it really kills the flow of the story. I made it 3/4 through it because I wanted to know where the plot went, but I couldn't take it anymore and the plot was going nowhere.

It was hard to get past the narration. She was especially bad at "evil white man." She's not much better at the Korean accent either.
Throughout the story there are annoying clicking noises between some sentences. Must be something in the recording device.
After listening for 2 hours and still having no idea what the plot was, I was ready to quit. But my friend wanted to keep listening, so we did. After a few more hours I don't think I would have regretted quitting.

But there are encouraging breakthroughs across the hemisphere and still time to change course, if we act quickly.

Story
All Systems Red is the tense first science fiction adventure novella in Martha Wells' series The Murderbot Diaries. For fans of Westworld, Ex Machina, Ann Leckie's Imperial Raadch series, or Iain M. Banks' Culture novels. The main character is a deadly security droid that has bucked its restrictive programming and is balanced between contemplative self-discovery and an idle instinct to kill all humans.

Not sure if it was the story or the narrator, but this one just didn't hold me. The first time I listened to it a few months ago, I made it about 30% through and then quit. I went back recently and started over and finished it. But it bored me. I likely won't listen to the rest of the series.

Story
Anomaly examines the prospect of an alien intelligence discovering life on Earth. The technological gulf between humanity and the alien species is measured in terms of millions of years. The only way to communicate is using science, but not everyone is so patient. Humanity's first contact with an alien intelligence is far more radical than anyone has ever dared imagine. With a technological gap of millions of years, mankind is barely able to recognize the arrival of an alien space craft outside the gates of the United Nations in New York.

Story
When we see a bird flying from branch to branch happily chirping, it is easy to imagine they lead a simple life of freedom, flight, and feathers. What we don't see is the arduous, life-threatening challenges they face at every moment. Beaks, Bones and Bird Songs guides the listener through the myriad, and often almost miraculous, things that birds do every day to merely stay alive. Like the goldfinch, which manages extreme weather changes by doubling the density of its plumage in winter.
