Well Done

I was disappointed that there was no PDF textbook to accompany this lecture, but it was full of good advice. It is also short enough that I immediately wanted to revisit the audio to ensure I had absorbed the lessons and hadn't missed anything.

Good advice. Inspirational. Well performed. I really enjoyed this one. It made me want to tell stories, gave me ideas for my podcast, and was entertaining to boot. I only wish that there was a PDF to go along with the book that had exercises and assignments, that would be helpful.

Insurance is not Funny
Reviewed: 07-25-19
I was not amused by this one. Not by the premise. Not by the execution. It just did nothing for me and I did not find it funny. It's very short and was one of the Audible freebies, but neither of those things can save this rather lame story.

For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal...because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam.

Bosch is a Tough Character
Reviewed: 07-23-19
I found the character of Bosch to be difficult to like and felt like that was a deliberate decision by the author. The story was good and the characters were mostly well done. I picked up the second in the series on sale, so I will continue with the series. But I don't believe I would if I didn't already have the second story... He's well written and realized, but Bosch is not a character I'm invested in. I just don't like him much.

Story
Boisterous, ribald, and ultimately shattering, Ken Kesey's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has left an indelible mark on the literature of our time. Turning conventional notions of sanity and insanity on their heads, the novel tells the unforgettable story of a mental ward and its inhabitants, especially tyrannical Big Nurse Ratched and Randle Patrick McMurphy, the brawling, fun-loving new inmate who resolves to oppose her.

The Problem with Celebrity Narration
Reviewed: 06-21-19
I found the narration by John C. Reilly to be a bit distracting, as I kept visualizing him in his various film roles. It wasn't a bad narration, it was just little disorienting. The story itself was interesting, the characters were vivid, and the exploration of life in a mental ward made for compelling storytelling. It was an interesting listen.

In July 1890, Vincent van Gogh went into a cornfield and shot himself. Or did he? Why would an artist at the height of his creative powers attempt to take his life... and then walk a mile to a doctor's house for help? Who was the crooked little "color man" Vincent had claimed was stalking him across France? And why had the painter recently become deathly afraid of a certain shade of blue? These are just a few of the questions confronting Vincent's friends who vow to discover the truth of van Gogh's untimely death.

Not What I Was Looking For
Reviewed: 06-12-19
I found it very difficult to become engaged with this story. The dialogue is stiff and rather flat. The world's setting is awkward and weird. And the attempt to capture the pulp-noir feel and mix it with urban fantasy doesn't come off well. I don't mean to infer that it's a terrible nozzle, it's not, and I finished it. I just didn't find any particular enjoyment in the story, the characters, or the setting.

it's hard to get excited about a lecture series. but, there is a ton of good information in these lectures and this one has even more information in the guide book. The lectures cover a lot of territory and do it well. Even if you just listen to this series and never look at the guide book you should get plenty of information about diet and nutrition.

The author whose boundless imagination and storytelling powers have redefined the horror genre, from 1974’s Carrie to his new epic Under the Dome, reflects on the very nature of terror—what scares us and why—in films (both cheesy and choice), television and radio, and, of course, the horror novel, past and present.

While a bit dated, in this book King provides some interesting analysis on the horror genre in both film and the written word. The narration was good and Stephen King's writing has his usual conversational tone.
