Publisher's summary

Nutrition is essential to living a healthy, happy, and successful life. Yet a world of misconceptions and promises of easy results too often stands in our way - and can even be harmful to our overall health.

The key is to cut through the noise and find the medically backed, statistically proven information about healthy eating and living. These 36 in-depth lectures explore the fundamentals of good nutrition and offer a practical guide for applying these fundamentals to your lifestyle. The power of nutrition lies not just in grasping the concepts behind it, but also in applying those concepts to daily living. This means learning where to find authoritative nutrition information, mastering the science behind nutrients and the body, recognizing what your personal daily requirements of each nutrient should be, building a distinct exercise regimen, and more.

A dietitian and award-winning lecturer, Professor Anding gives you a wealth of invaluable tips you can easily apply to your own eating habits. You'll learn how to calculate your own dietary needs, how to create your own nutrition and exercise plans, how to recognize when a product or service is really a health fraud, and more.

Crafted with the needs of individual people in mind, this course is both a fascinating learning experience and the perfect investment in your personal health - one that will educate you, motivate you, and reward you for the rest of your life.

Read Me ... The missing PDF guidebook is there!

Any additional comments?

It took me a long time to find the PDF that the author repeatedly refers to and some people said was available with your audible purchase. Note - you cannot find the PDF from your phone! The PDF is not in the phone app but it is on the actual Audible website (but you STILL cannot see this from the Internet on your phone!) However, you can find this via an iPad or computer. You have to go into the actual audible website on the Internet … Audible.com ... from your computer or from an iPad. When you log into your account, you will see a list of all of the books that you have on Audible. The PDF is listed beneath your book details on that page. I saved mine to iBooks so that I can view it when I want. Tip - to save to iBooks - quickly select the " view in iBooks" pop up in the top right corner of your screen when you first open the PDF and it will save the guidebook to iBooks on your iPad or Mac computer. Hope this helps you!

informative

This was very good. I feel so much more relaxed about nutrition now and no longer subject to what I read in magazine articles. And I thought I already knew a lot about nutrition before I read this.

I also disagree with reviews that said this was just a bunch of tables. I didn't notice that issue at all.

And I don't understand why people don't like the narrator. I thought she was pretty good.

Whenever I find a narrator dull, I turn the speed up to 1.25 and it usually takes care of the problem. But I thought this narrator was fine without any tinkering.

I finished this book quickly and looked forward to it.

So much great information!!!

What did you like best about this story?

Roberta helped me get motivated to get started on strength training. And so far, combing that with limiting my portion sizes - in the past month, I've had the most success I've had in ages... so...

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Half your plate should be vegetables, 1/4 lean protein, and 1/4 carbohydrate. 2 days of strength training and 5 days of 1/2 hour of moderate exercise - GET ON IT.

Any additional comments?

I wanted to hold off on reviewing this until I finished, but all along the way I was recommending it to folks.

I learned so much from this - from just the interesting mechanics of how oatmeal lowers cholesterol to confirming what I was doing right and what I was doing wrong.

I really appreciated Roberta's open mind to different diet preferences (pescatarian, vegetarian and vegan) and the format of the lectures personal story, information, data, studies, conclusions, FAQs - though sometimes the anecdote at the start got a little... meh. I see the value of it, but could happily skip them.

For other Audible members complaining that the lecture notes often referred to were not included - for the most part, you can do without them, but occasionally she does say 'you'll find this or that data in the notes' a quick google pulls them up in PDF form.

I have to admit - at the end, I got a little sad during her farewell, after 18+ hours with the lady, you start to feel like she's a friend.

Great course, but apply critical thinking

I loved the book and 90% of it is spot on, no-nonsense, non-controversial truth. But some parts needed a bit of critical thinking applied - especially the part about carbs/sugar and fat.

The author seems to be part of the "old school" crowd in thinking that fats are bad and one should avoid full fat cheeses, milk, etc.

Unfortunately, it is last century mentality and the US is one of the few countries on the planet that still consumes everything fat free, when it's been scientifically proven that for healthy individuals full fat options are great.

Everything else is awesome! Highly recommend.

Lots of information

Nothing too advanced for anyone that is interested in nutrition, I just wish there was more on the benefits of fats instead of insisting on fat reduction.

Great Information

If you could sum up Nutrition Made Clear in three words, what would they be?

The information in this book changed my eating styles, exercise and overall outlook of food, nutrition and overall health. Some sections get a little technical, however I listened anyway to get what little nuggets I could pick up on.

Changed the Direction of My Life

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I recommend this to anyone I know that has an interest, but lacks a grounded understanding of nutrition.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This course really altered the direction of my life--- it was an eye-opening experience. Mrs. Anding is so well-balanced in her views and understanding of nutrition. I'll never go back to treating my body so horribly again. This course made me aware of my health and what I was putting into my body. As someone who has always looked for shortcuts in dieting, and "weird tricks" to beat the system, I've completely reversed course and am so excited about all the wonderful nutrition I've introduced to my life. I'm excited about a constant 1-2 lb/week weight loss. Before I went through this course, I would have given up the first week that I didn't lose at least 5 lbs. I've also stopped depending on supplements for my vitamin/mineral needs and started looking for real food sources to meet these needs.

Any additional comments?

Thank you Audible and the Great Courses for offering this. It contains so much information and is perfectly balanced. I really hope more of these health-based courses are made available to us.
