Story
Springerville is famous for the legend of the Mongolian Monster. Of course nobody really believes it. It’s just a good campfire story, something to attract gullible tourists until an excavation team unearths the figurine of a screaming woman, the jawbone of a deformed animal, and a child’s toy. How odd that they were buried together. Odd, too, is the foul odor lingering in the air, the strange noises at night, and the man’s face found hanging from a tree. Now the locals are locking their doors. Because after sundown, campfire stories can seem very, very real.

This One Missed the Mark for Me

Something about this book just didn’t hold my attention. I struggled to connect with the characters—none of them felt particularly relatable or compelling. The storyline had potential, but it never really came together in a way that kept me engaged. I’m usually a big fan of Bentley Little’s work, but unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me, I ended up stopping before I made it halfway through. On a positive note, the narrator did a great job with the material, even if the story itself fell flat.

Story
The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived. Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal".

boring, long winded
Reviewed: 08-29-24
The biggest downfall of this series is the repetition. because it IS a "diary", it is written as if in an ACTUAL diary of an ever day person. someone with poor communication skills. like listening to someone who likes to talk just to talk and you wanna tell them, "GET TO THE POINT!" Hours of listening to this man, LITERALLY, LIST every item he scavenger in each house....like...who CARES how many can of what veggie you got. Found myself skipping though much of the book hoping it would get better. To make it worse, the main character is not very likable. He is crude, not in a fvery funny way, selfish and pretty much a dick.

Story
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.
