A woman is drawn into a mysterious web of secrets in this twisty whodunnit from New York Times best-selling author Mary Kubica

Sadie and Will Foust have only just moved their family from bustling Chicago to a coastal island in Maine when their neighbor Morgan Baines is found dead in her home. The murder rocks their tiny coastal island, but no one is more shaken than Sadie.

But it’s not just Morgan’s death that has Sadie on edge. And as the eyes of suspicion turn toward the new family in town, Sadie is drawn deeper into the mystery of what really happened that dark and deadly night. But Sadie must be careful, for the more she discovers about Mrs. Baines, the more she begins to realize just how much she has to lose if the truth ever comes to light.

“Altogether unpredictable.” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times best-selling author)

Don’t let the reviews fool you

So the narrator can seem a bit robotic at first and probably more so if you have it in your head from the reviews. As you continue with the story you’ll find her speech pattern is fitting for the character.

I’m very snobby when it comes to thriller/mysteries. I don’t like graphic sex which I never seem to avoid, but this story is very good in not going from a whodunnit to an erotic novel at the turn of a page. There are understandings of adult relationships but that is all.

You’ll start to figure somethings out but, you’re still figuring out how all the pieces go together, which keeps the intrigue flowing.

I was satisfied with the ending and the story as a whole, even with the few questions I still had. But nothing worth letting myself not enjoy this novel. Prob one of the best I’ve listened to in a while.

I loved “The Good Girl” by the same author and have been hoping to see it become a moving picture (Lol). So this is another win from me!

Creepy, crazy, and so much fun!

Whoa!! This book sucked me in and didn’t let me out until it was over! I truly lost all track of day and time listening to this one. What a creepy and fun ride! And, contrary to other reviews, I did *not* find the narrator robotic and thought she was easy to listen to at 1.0, 1.25, and 1.5 (and this is coming from someone who could not finish Crawdads because of the narrator). Just read it!

Very average

This book was just ok. I thought it was rather predictable and didn’t offer anything new. It was somewhat entertaining nonetheless...

1st Audible book

I enjoyed the story. I figured out the main gist early on, but wanted to finish and know for certain.
The narrators voice is similar to Alexa, not a major fan of that!
all in all, my 1st Audible book... I will try again!

Meh

Lots of loose ends. Predictable. Ok story. No real character development. Just meh. Good narration though!

Narration sub par

The story was engaging. That is what kept me listening. The main narrator was hard to listen to though. Seemed robotic through most of the book.

It all comes together in the end

I would have rated this book horribly in the start , the characters were bland and too dramatic for my liking. And the narrator was a touch flat to listen to.. but with time everything tied together and made since. The narrator matched the characters.
The story line was slightly annoying due to is high drama and little to no comic relief ( which I personally love to have)
Over all finishing the book I am satisfied and enjoyed the ending but it did take awhile for me to get to enjoying the book

Predictable

It’s a good read and looking forward to the movie. I enjoyed her other book better.
