About this listen

Collected here are the first four books of the eight books, best-selling epic Adrian's Undead Diary.

The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived.

Book One: Dark Recollections: Beheading a zombie isn't easy in a world where you're more afraid of the living than the dead. Adrian Ring's simple life is thrown into chaos when the world is ripped apart by a plague of undead and legions of desperate survivors. Retreating to Auburn Lake Prep Academy, Adrian attempts to rescue friends and family on the way while dancing around his impending insanity over who and what he left behind, and evading maniac survivors. He saves his cat Otis, but shoots his mom. Pretty , all things considered. Of course, his sanity takes a hit as a result.

Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal", and through short stories that entwine with his tales that bring forth dark visions of a world being eaten alive by an unimaginable evil.

AUD is an eight part epic about a solitary, guilt stricken man that didn't think he deserved to live, but realizes very soon that he survived, and suffered for a reason.

This collection contains Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, and The Failed Coward, four full-length novels following the end of the world as witnessed by Adrian Ring.

Excellent find

I heard about this book while searching for opinions on funny writers and great "not to miss" books from a comment on reddit. I am soooo glad I'm a curious person by nature and decided to just purchase the Omnibus to get a feel for the series. Self high five.

Now, I can't stop recommending it to family, friends and all you lovely people reading this review.

Adrian is the definition of "The Everyman" he is beautifully flawed, slightly selfish, definitely looks out for number 1 in the chaos of the beginning. And, let's be real here, if we (you and i) were in the same situation as Adrian, as much as we want to think we would be heroes and stick our necks out for a total stranger we know WOULDN'T stick their necks out for us.... we probably wouldn't. Maybe 1% of us really would even if it could mean your death.

Adrian gets it. He is the type to quickly list pro and con/ risk vs reward and makes his decision to get involved or not.
How very human of him.

His sticks by his decisions good or bad. Internalizing his guilt over a failure and patting himself on the back for his wins.

All of this makes him so relatable and perfectly human.
There are times he has disgusted me. Times he has made me snort with surprise laughter. Times I've mentally yelled at him in anger and warning. But I found myself cheering for him.

I love how Mr. Philbrook has written him, so realistic that it can sometimes be uncomfortable unless you reeeeealllly take a look at what you would do in that situation were it you and not Adrian. Man... I tell you. I was shocked when I actually thought about it, and this book did make me think.

You can absolutely just take it at face value for just entertainment and still get an awesome mental adventure by the story. I'm a bit of a over analyzer and deep thinker why did the author choose this way and not that? etc.

So on the cerebral side of the listener's/readers.

Yes, just go for it.

Decent story

If you do not enjoy stories told in blocks of time, like “journal entry day blah blah blah” then this isn’t for you.
This story isn’t about a hero rising to the call. This isn’t an intense shooter or the like.
It’s a man with a journal.

The story so far is decent but the amount of sword use and a few other nit picking things makes my skin crawl. It’s petty I agree but every single time. Just yea.

Just my honest opinion.
Good for a credit.

Entertaining

It’s a fun listen but the author tries too hard to sound like he knows anything about the military or guns .. if you know little about both you probably won’t roll your eyes as often as I did

Depressing but good

Be warned, this is a really depressing story, don't read it you want to keep a good mood. And I just hate the reason and justification behind the zombies. But this is a great drama and survival epic on everything else.

Not your typical Zombie Story!

I'm not usually a zombie story kinda guy but this is a great story type as narration. Definitely give this Omnibus of the first four books a look!

so much better then expected

im not a big zombie fan but when i saw that the date started on june 23rd, my birthday, i had to get it for that reason.
turns out, this was really good. really like how this is written, in a diary of the mc. its pretty funny aswell. it has you rooting for the characters. i like the concept of how the zombie apocalypse started. i cant wait to listen to the other books.

narrator does a amazing job with this. of it wasnt for his personality, i dont think this series would be as good as it is.
