Story
Allie Hilts was still in high school when a fire at a top-secret research facility released an air-borne pathogen that quickly spread to every male on the planet, killing most. Allie witnessed every man she ever knew be consumed by fearsome symptoms: scorching fevers and internal bleeding, madness and uncontrollable violence. The world crumbled around her. No man was spared, and the few survivors were irrevocably changed. They became disturbingly strong, aggressive, and ferocious. Feral.

Where to start on this horrible book. The "zombies" in the book are created by a scientist adding a Y chromosome into men. This exists in nature already as Jacob's Syndrome, and it doesn't turn everyone into mindless killing machines. Most of the book takes place 3 years after the outbreak, but the women still have functional fuel and easily find supplies in their area. The camps they establish are a perfect communist society with no real infighting among the individuals. The protagonist somehow becomes a Rambo lite character even though she was just a high schooler when the outbreak happened. The entire book is just about how toxic all men/masculinity is. Avoid this at all costs.

Story
In March 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend Aaron Quinn awoke from a sound sleep into a nightmare. Armed men bound and drugged them, then abducted Denise. Warned not to call the police or Denise would be killed, Aaron agonized about what to do. Finally he put his trust in law enforcement and dialed 911. But instead of searching for Denise, the police accused Aaron of her murder. His story, they told him, was just unbelievable. When Denise was released alive, the police turned their fire on her, dubbing her the “real-life ‘Gone Girl’” who had faked her own kidnapping.

Talk about self aggrandizing

The authors are perfect. to hear them tell, they're absolutely amazing and everyone around them are lucky to be near them. Instead of hearing a balanced story about the events, it's highly skewed (to be expected, but not to this extent). One of the few books I couldn't finish.

While the book claims to be about the murder case, it's actually about how awesome, beautiful, smart, and courageous the author is. This book is the author just patting herself on the back about how amazing she is, and oh yeah there was a murder case
