Often we judge by another’s actions….not fully understanding their past. Loved this story of strength by overcoming one’s former tragedy. Adeline’s strength to make the best of her situations gives courage. Very much enjoyed this narrator too. It always amazes me how a woman can perform a male’s character so believably.

Story
The Marquess of Winterbourne has long been guided by his Rules of the Rogue, but as spy for the Crown, his next mission will break every single one. Sent to the wilds of Cornwall to beguile secrets from a lady, the last thing this rogue expects is to unearth his own buried heart. Miss Tamsyn Penrose remains far from impressed by London scoundrel Lord Winterbourne, preferring a wild gallop over the moors to sinful lips and fulsome flattery. But as danger lurks and her prejudice ebbs, she uncovers a man of contradictions, a man who awakens her forgotten fire.

As soon as I read that Ms. Eyre was the narrator, I knew this would be a delightful book! A dark mystery, a kind Marquess akin to The Scarlet Pimpernel, lovely and brave heroine, this had all the requirements for a great story.

Story
For James Trent, Lord Huntington, there's no escaping the question that labeled him The Murdering Marquess: was his wife's death a tragic accident or a cold-blooded crime? He's avoided London's gossipmongers since that terrible night, as guardian to his younger siblings on his Essex estate. But trouble finds him when a veiled temptress with secrets of her own falls - quite literally - into his arms.

Story
Known as a brazen philanderer, Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is almost done in by a vengeful mistress who aims a gun at a rather essential part of his anatomy - but ends up wounding his thigh instead. Recuperating in his London townhouse, Hayden is confronted by his new medical attendant. Sophia Camden intrigues him, for behind her starched uniform is an enticing beauty better suited for bedding than dispensing salves and changing bandages.

I found this a good story with the perfect amount of sizzle. Not too much….just right. And I have always adored Justine Eyre’s narrations! She makes the stories come alive!

It is dislike at first sight between Caelan Ross and Glynis Macneil. She thinks him too stuffy and English-acting, and he thinks her too wild and without regard for propriety. The attraction that simmers beneath the surface is maddening to both of them. When Glynis runs away and Caelan goes after her, the argument that ensues becomes a night of torrid passion. Both are horrified afterwards. However, always a man of honor, Caelan insists they marry. Glynis, on the other hand, insists they not.

Caelan so reminded me of my son. Always seeking perfection, logic, obedient to extreme….then found his young friend just the opposite. That those two could become such good friends was bewildering. Their very astute teacher one day pointed out that they were the perfect friends for each other. My son’s crazy, impetuous, throw caution to the wind friend taught my uptight son to relax and enjoy their youth…..while my calm, cautious and responsible son tightened the reins on his friend.
This story was so endearing, and I fell in love with Caelan and his lovely….always getting into trouble Glynis. A sumptuous listen!!!!!
