Story
When Izzy Astor gets on a plane to go home, she isn’t expecting much. It’s the usual holiday travel experience: busy, crowded, stressful. Then she spots her seatmate, who is anything but ordinary. Nate Phelan sports dark hair, blue eyes, and a deliciously rugged charm that Izzy can’t resist. Their connection is undeniable. Izzy never believed in destiny before, but she does now. Just ninety seconds after takeoff, their plane goes down in the Missouri River.

Reads like Twilight
Reviewed: 02-13-25
I was hoping from the summary that this book would have descriptions of war in it. There’s a little bit at the end, but the bulk of the book is a lot of contemplating about whether or not this is love, what to order off of menus, and what vacations to go on next year. The soldier shows up with scars and tells the girlfriend it’s classified. So what, the reader doesn’t get to know either? Reminds me of Twilight where she’s dating a freaking vampire but you mostly read about her cooking breakfast for her dad or how her dad likes is eggs. Meanwhile the vampire’s out ripping flesh somewhere, but I guess girls don’t want to read that? Snooze. It picks a bit at the end when the annoying flashback device ends, the couple finally has an argument, and there’s a hint that there’s some danger or something afoot. It starts with a freaking plane crash, but most of that crash is a pair of crystal blue eyes? Could we at least hear about the crash when she has nightmares? Nope, just hear about her telling herself it was a dream. Yea. Algorithm, please send me some action. Or at least more interesting scenes in any type of story. I like to get absorbed in a story, not sit through a couple of boring dates.

Story
Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again. As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers. But every second counts, and there’s one thing Jenna Wade doesn’t have: very much time.

When the rules turn deadly, winning is everything. Only available from Audible, a gripping psychological thriller from the author of Silent Child, Saving April, and The Broken Ones. Perfect for fans of Gillian Flynn, Lisa Jewell and Paula Hawkins. The perfect couple. The perfect marriage. The perfect game. Effie and Ben May have everything. Success. Beauty. Glamour. But beneath the charming smiles and expensive clothes, a twisted game is in progress. A game for which only they know the rules.

Really enjoyed the book, especially the audio production. I haven’t read Sarah A Denzil before, but she’s fun, sufficiently gave me the creeps and kept my attention. Really enjoyed all the readers, music, and sound effects. Thanks Audible, please produce more like this!

Mind-numbingly boring
Reviewed: 02-03-24
Specifically, the writing is terrible. This book is verbatim The Hating Game, only written very very badly. If you liked the Hating Game, I would suggest just reading that book twice. I have only ever physically thrown a book across the room in disgust, and that was one of the Twilight books. I forget which one, but it doesn’t matter, they’re all awful. It’s a little too painfully obvious that Ms Armas is emulating Stephanie Meyer, at least when it comes to prose. At least Twilight has vampires. For all my complaints about terrible writing, Ms Meyer had a sort of original idea. But this book is the Hating Game, only sloppy, uncomfortable, and painfully boring. I’m very upset that people had the nerve the rate this book highly, on behalf of my book club who choose based on ratings. We innocently believed the 4 and 5 stars out there, and all I can comprehend is some people out there need to treat themselves to better authors. I want my week and my credit back.

Story
April Clarke-Cliveden was the first person Hannah Jones met at Oxford. Vivacious, bright, occasionally vicious, and the ultimate It girl, she quickly pulled Hannah into her dazzling orbit. Together, they developed a group of devoted and inseparable friends—Will, Hugh, Ryan, and Emily—during their first term. By the end of the year, April was dead.

Longer than I thought it would be
Reviewed: 08-26-22
This was an excellent story, told relatively slowly. I think maybe 10 or so chapters of inner dialogue could’ve been cut to make it a little more suspenseful. But the characters were certainly very familiar to the reader all the way to the end and the handling of pregnancy especially was relatable.
