Story
The Aftermath of a stunning victory—especially an unexpected, complete, and final victory—should be high-fives all around, listening to politicians give boring congratulatory speeches, and a well-deserved rest for the Merry Band of Pirates. Yes, the galaxy is still a freakin' mess, but that is nothing new, and for a change, that can be someone else's problem. Until, you know, something really bad happens, and only the Pirates can deal with the problem... Or not.

I knew it wasn't over
Reviewed: 12-13-23
I was confident the last book was not the end. It was not how I have seen that Craig Alanson does endings. I was confident there was more to the series. There was just to much story line content left onnthe board. Margaret and Joe's couple relationship had really just started up well. There was so many unanswered questions about humans and other 2 senior species. Then drawing more attention to this outside threat. Why even bother if it wasn't going to be wound into it eventually. I fully expected the outsiders to be the next threat. It threw me off when this volume seemed to ge about yet another Elder AI threat storyline. That line had already had multiple go-a-rounds. What a great way to bring them in. At first, I was thinking what a telegraphed anticlimactic ende it was leading up to. But nope!! We find out it's an OUTSIDER after all!! Finally the next evolution has begun!! Great ending to lead into the next volume.
As an aside, it's rather interesting that theses seemingly unkillable, considered plague like, beings, that even the most powerful of all race, the Elders, were terrified of. Their actions were those thought of asas "inflatrators" That Bishop, and Skippy coin the name as "Outsiders" Certainly seems self descriptive namegiven where they come from i.e. outside the Galaxy. It did immediately trigger thought of the comparison of another famous Series with simialrly powerfup evil beings also of the same coined name "The Outsiders" I am speaking of the Dreseden Files and the Outsiders there were similar being outside organized dimensional space/time. Thought to be unkillable, ability to morph their physical matter unbelievably powerful. They work by deception, mental manipulation and posession etc. The similarities are hard to ignore once you compare them. I doubt it's where the idea xamefrom but just one of those weird coincidences as these are both two of my fav series.
This volume was great with more development of the lives and characters themselves. Looking forward to find out where this leads with the next volume. Hopefully, this rebuffs all the negative comments from the last volume jumping to the assumption that it was the end if the series.
5 stars across the board!!!

Finally, another great Mil Opera series found!!
Reviewed: 11-01-23
It seems to have the makings of a great series. In, at least the fiction sub-genre I enjoy, great authored and in concert narrated series are quite rare. As someone who listens to audio books throughout the day and at night to fall asleep to, I can really rack up the listening hours. Military Opera with depth of characters great plot, good writing, and fantastic narrator not growing on trees.
I enjoyed this so much and want to see how this story world develops, I am downloading book 2 as I write this. This coming from someone whose topics are quite eclectic and various sci-fi fantasy fiction is but a small part of my literary interests.
As a small sampling of past, recent, current, and on going (only in fictional genre) series in audiobook format I have completed or am fully caught up waiting on next book is a list below. It is only to show examples of what I have found to be great writers and narrators as individuals and as complementary teams/pairings This is 20-30 series off the top of my head and no where near covers my completed library in audio, or written (electronic or paper) formats (many in both) encompassing numerous genres and periods. My total library in the many thousands of literary works. My fictional audible library is well over 600. Point being I have a fairly good level of sampling of works to base my opinion on.
In no particular order as follows:
Dresden Files (and all novellas)
Undying Mercenaries
Mistborn
Infinite Timeline
Monster Hunters International
The Demon Accords
Harry Bosche
The Complete Circle
Zone War
Mitch Rapp
Star Force
Expeditionary Force
Jack Reacher
Chronicles of Narnia
Harry Potter
The Enderverse
Bobiverse (We are Legion)
The Tracker Series
Arisen
Mountain Men
Extinction Cycle (and spin-offs)
Anthology of Detective Premium Collection
Complete Edgar Rice Bouroughs Collective Works
Red Rising
Terminal List
Iron Druid
Norse Mythology
Those are but a sampling of the over 800 books in my audiobook library innfiction genre only and do not include any docu genre audio or any at all of my printed book library and those read. But as can be seen in the fiction world, most of these are from very well accredited and awarded authors and narrators.
A great book can be ruined by a poor narrator while a great narrator can turn a shallow trashy book into something enjoyable to listen to. So far, it seems, without a doubt Wayward Galaxy has an iconic narrator in R.C. Bray. He is truly a "Philosopher's Stone" of narrators. JN Chaney and Jason Anspach so far are making for fantastic partners in developing and penning out this story and universe. If you are the type that enjoys the likes of Undying Mercenaries, Expeditionary Force, or Star Force you should find this a fantastic listen.

For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.
