I am literally addicted to the spellmonger books. I have re listened to the entire series 4 times now to ensure I have the proper context for the latest books. I'm ready for book 18 now.

I am 62 years old, on my 4TH play through. Yes these books are that immersive. The Spellmonger series is easily destined to go down as one the great fantasy series of our age. Sometimes Tolkienesk but often unique, always funny, very adult and witty and clever and massively entertaining. Never boring, multi faceted plot lines and never juvenile. This is truly a classic in the making. oh and John Lee is the ONLY narrator in my veiw.

the sample of the next book was more than I could stand. why would anyone switch narrators in the middle of a series. just an amateur move. I wouldn't have even listened to the first three books with this guy over acting every syllable.

Endless stacking of three and four word descriptions is not the same as actually world building. Almost 5 hours in and still Nothing noteworthy has happened yet.

The dialog and character interactions are juvenile sounding, there seems to be no real story arc its just endless melodramatic situations and the whole thing is made much worse by the very Rod Serling like narrator droning on like an infinite introduction to Night Gallery... Maybe good for someone but not for me.

I'm going to continue this series because I'm bored not because it's good. Everything about this Book reeks of Star Wars rip offs. Without the Star Wars universe this book would not exist. There's far too much intellectual property list, right down to character names, the faulty physics concepts and the exactly similar tech, and so I'll just leave it at that. Its not a horrible story. In fact it tells a little peoples viewpoint that has alway been quite week in the SW universe but it would have been better if the writers had just gotten permission and wrote an actual SW story so they could have the legend that comes with it. Instead I spent too much time try to catch them at copy cating.

Don't pay attention to those John Lee haters

I love John Lee and won't often listen to anyone else. Most of the women narrators make me feel like some kindergarten teacher is reading a nursery rhyme which might work for some people but is all wrong for my scifi. Others like the raspy one character voice of Bray are fine for first person war novels where the hero describes all the action and no other characters exist outside of protagonist perspective. John Lee is an exceptional voice actor and once you understand his cadence, you will find it disappointing to listen to anyone else. Looking forward to John Lee reading the next in book this series because I feel like the story arc has alot of unique potential.

Definitely needs to be a feature length movie with Chris Pratt. Ray Porter must have been working directly with Andy Weir, the emotional connection to the story was the best Ive ever heard. Maybe Ray should star in it. Very good hard science story.
