About this listen

The UFS Phoenix is on a mission to find a lost data-core that may contain the secret to defeating the alo-deepynine alliance. But the means to find the data-core is hidden deep in tavalai space, in a highest-security vault where the tavalai's manipulative State Department keep all their most treacherous secrets. To recover it, Phoenix must pull off the most daring heist the Spiral has ever seen. But Phoenix will need help - in the form of a rebellious faction of the tavalai Fleet; a fanatical parren mystic who lusts mostly for power; a cynical old tavalai marine who's spent much of his life fighting humans; and a superintelligent AI queen who will sacrifice anything to rescue her race from extinction. None of them can be trusted, and neither Captain Erik Debogande nor Major Trace Thakur is experienced in this kind of work. But each must gather his ingenuity and courage and learn as they go, as the scale of the threat confronting humanity looms larger, and the clock is ticking.

Great series

A great sci-fi book. This is part 3, so start with book 1 if you haven't already.

This book is basically Ocean's 11 meets Star Trek. Don't let that turn you off, it was a great listen and had a nice pace and plenty of action / plot.

Sets the stage nicely for the next book as well.

Great series

Finally a scifi series with an original setting and characters I like. Narration is spot and, capturing each character perfectly.

Again Excellent!!

I love the complexity of these books, how deep they go into new worlds and concepts and things I could never have imagined!! I also love the relationship building between the Captain and the Marine Major!!

Spiral Wars Series

Excellent book and series. The series was extremely well written, believable, has well developed and believable characters; and well described, believable, great action. The author's style prompts your imagination to easily picture the events in your mind. Excellent audio performance. This book takes the crew to a world to recover some archival data and they have to figure out how to defy many times the force of gravity protecting the contents of a secret vault containing long ago evidence against an alien race that threatens the crew. Truly fascinating concepts and descriptions of the use of technology and ancient mechanical creatures to assist them.
My only criticism of the series was it seems that after hundreds and even thousands of years that this book describes, the different species' technology would have evolved into more advanced individual weapons than those that shoot sold projectiles like we have on Earth, or more advanced weapons for the space vessels, or more advanced space vessel drive systems. Take for example Evan Curries' Odyssey One series: it describes many different advanced weapons both personal and space vessel, and advanced faster than light travel.
This is a series you don't want to put down or will want for it to have very many more follow-on books in the series. Highly recommended.

I think a fourth is in progress, thankfully. Can't wait.

Another thrill ride

I am not big in writing what I liked about the series to date. And yes, the stars rated says it all. Do enjoy!

This series is so great!

I am not sure if it is due to John Lee or the writing but I really enjoy this series... I really look forward to the next one!
