About this listen

An epic first-contact story on a galactic scale.

Humans have reached the stars. There is no evidence any other species survived its own sentience long enough to do the same. Until now, when the Magellanix deep-space scout Accipiter discovers the Artifact, a million-year-old alien construct resting in a dormant volcano on a faraway world.

Now, TransGalactic has sent the Carpathia to steal it. Two ships, two rival corporations, and a race only one of them can win.

The stakes are greater than they seem. The Artifact is more than just a technological marvel. It holds the key to humanity's survival, and—perhaps—an understanding of our place in the universe at last.

Originality, character development,

An amusing listen, I’m always looking for a new, futuristic, sci-fi novel that isn’t about never ending wars. This book was what I was looking for.
A thought-provoking storyline with interesting characters and a decent finish, which left the potential for a sequel.

Thoughtful and unique

This one had me hooked in within the first half hour or so. It can be slow, but never boring. Cant wait for a sequel

Unpredictable hard sci fi plot - intriguing mysteries.

Science fiction at its best with well defined characters, good narration a plus, and interstellar travel.

Interesting take on first contact.

This was a good story. The writing was pretty good. The characters were both likeable and unlikable. The story dragged a little in the middle with the bio lab on Paradise but the beginning and the ending where excellent. The story had interesting aspects of wilderness survival that I enjoyed. The characters were fairly consistent. There were no gaping plot holes which was very nice. Overall an interesting story with both adventure and intellectual curiosity. Well done.

2/3 of the book is really good Sci-Fi the other third is mind numbing romance that really should just been left out.

couldn't make it through this book....

1st, this is NOT about first contact, it's about how corporate slaves will view first contact..I'll admit I skipped ahead, then skipped ahead again, then again finally to the end and they were still wrestling with how it made them "feel" and what the board of directors would think about their feelings... like listening to an interstellar Spanish soap opera about tax law.....

Highly Disappointing

I've never written a bad review, but this book was a huge disappointment. It's NOT about first contact with an alien artifact, it's about the characters with the artifact as a microscopic sideline. The character development is needless, needlessly long and needlessly boring. 1 star for story.
