I was drawn into the suspense. I didn’t appreciate the unnecessarily graphic love making. Why?

Story
When Persephone Lancaster receives a marriage proposal from the ill-tempered Duke of Kielder, she refuses - and then reconsiders. The obscene sum of money he's offering Persephone would save her family from ruin. With her characteristic optimism, she travels to the far reaches of Northumberland to wed a greatly feared stranger. Lodged deep in a thick forest infested with wild dogs, the Duke's castle is as cold and forbidding as the Duke himself, a man with terrible scars on his body and his soul.

Almost gave up

I really did not like the narrator’s grumpy, grouchy voice. Other voices were ok. I almost couldn’t finish. I was moderately interested in how the story would end so I held on. I would say the story was almost enjoyable.

I read The Shell Seekers many years ago and remembered enjoying it very much. When I saw it advertised on Audible I jumped at the chance to listen -not remembering a great deal about the book. I was not disappointed. Penelope is even stronger than I remembered her. The flaws of her children and the complicated relationship she had with each of them was one with which I believe mothers everywhere can relate. The performance was remarkable. Highly recommend.

Story
This newly produced audiobook with an original musical score is a MUST HAVE for Austen fans. Emma, one of Austen's most-beloved novels has been delightfully recreated in this new studio production. Emma is a novel about the perils of misconstrued romance. The novel was first published in December 1815. As in her other novels, Austen explores the concerns and difficulties of genteel women living in Georgian-Regency England; she also creates a lively comedy of manners among her characters.

I am a Jane Austen fan. Emma is one of my favorites. However, I had to force myself to keep listening to this presentation. The grating voice used by the narrator for several of the characters was almost too much to bear. I do not recommend this presentation.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It is a mystery and I did want to have the mystery resolved so I kept listening.
