About this listen

Anne Murphy is smart, gorgeous, and young, the red-headed rookie at the Philadelphia law firm of Rosato & Associates. She leaves town for Fourth of July weekend to prepare for a high-profile trial, but when she buys her morning newspaper, her own photo is plastered all over the front page. And the headline, "Lawyer Murdered", supposedly refers to her. Anne sets out to find her killer, playing dead in order to stay alive.

She tries to go it alone but quickly realizes that she'll have to trust people she barely knows; colleagues who hate her guts, a homicide squad who wants her out of the crime-fighting business, and a new love who inconveniently happens to be opposing counsel. The investigation takes all of Anne's boldness and ingenuity, plus a pair of red satin hot pants. But her knack for courting trouble makes it almost impossible for Anne to play well with others, defend the lawsuit, and fight her urge to sleep with the enemy. Then an unexpected event places her in lethal jeopardy and leaves her with everything to lose, including her life.

Liked the story, but some audio issues

I really enjoyed the storyline and the mystery, had me wondering about the facts and trying to reason it all out which I liked!
However, the audio on this was inconsistent - sometimes the reader was quieter then would suddenly get louder (for no apparent reason). It was easy to tell when it switched to a different recording. A few times it even sounded like you could hear the reader turning the pages.

Not the best Scottelini read.

This is probably the worst novel by this author that I've read
At times it was so ridiculous that I almost quit listening to it.
Grown women as attorneys do not act like the characters in this particular story.
Though the storyline could have been compelling because of the stalking And the main character being presumed as dead but not, that part of the story really wasn't drawn out very effectively. I also did not care for the narration. I can't really explain what I didn't care for about it, but I just didn't feel like the inflections were very good. I just did not like the voice. In the past, i've enjoyed Benny Rossetti stories and the characters in that law firm, but this was not one of those.

Heroine you want to see dead

If you like the lead to be a woman making such poor choices in the name of being "strong and independent" that you are cheering for the bad guy and that makes truly independent women who can safely use, carry and store firearms look poorly then this is the book for you.

Better direction, please

I have recorded some audiobooks, and have been stopped many times by directors who made me start again because they heard me swallow, turn a page, or lose my place in a script. Barbara Rosenblat (who is a genius at accents and inflection) apparently had no such direction. This reflects on the producer, not her, and Scottoline should ask for more for those who listen to her work on commutes instead of reading it in bed.

Fabulous Scottaline Read!!! More great Associates!

I LOVED IT!!! Great Bennie & Associates read! This puts beautiful, red-headed, Anne Murray in the lead role as the attorney 4 a client called Chipster. The owner of Chipster is a sleaze, a former boyfriend is trying 2 kill Anne, her absentee mother shows up, Anne finally has a love interest, & Anne finally has "girlfriends". The narrator does a super job!! I really like voice for the Associates! ENJOY!!

Not bad

This story was okay but a little predictable. Since it is short, it is good for a quick listen and for something to pass the time while driving.
Would recommend for a good, quick listen. Just don't expect a major mystery here.

Loved It!

The whole gang was in this one, and it made it all the better! We get to meet the knees associate Ann while going on the run with her. Great wit and humor, tough yet sensitive chicks, human connection, obsession, suspense and action were all enjoyably wrapped in Scottoline fashion!! Loved the spandex motel scene!! I highly recommend this book!

Character arc of Ann

Good read, characters were interesting and ending was a surprise . Not a lot of unnecessary prose about the environment

Still issues with this performer

She read at least one other book in this series and it seems, though this story was better than the other, that she has her mouth full of food...or gum!!
