Great book!

Unfinished Love Story is a fantastic book. I didn’t expect so much from an autobiography, which is actually a mix of the author’s life with her husband’s, from the 60s, and their love story over more than 40 years. Besides being a personal narrative, the book offers a dive into US political history, showing how the couple’s life intertwined with major events. The backdrop is the Civil Rights Movement, and I never imagined I’d be so interested in the Kennedy administration. Goodwin, Doris’s husband, was crucial with his speeches, including the famous: ‘Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.’ After Kennedy’s assassination, Goodwin became an advisor and ghostwriter for Lyndon Johnson, carrying forward the ideas with the Great Society movement. When the Johnson administration escalated the Vietnam War, Goodwin left the government and began to oppose the policies. He even supported McCarthy, who could have won the Democratic vote against Johnson. However, when Bobby Kennedy entered the presidential race, Goodwin, as a close friend, joined his campaign. Reading this book exceeded my expectations because I was able to revisit the turbulence of the 60s with a front-row perspective, as if I were in a privileged theater box. In hindsight, I should have had higher expectations because I consider Doris the best biographer there is. ‘Team of Rivals’ is the best biography I’ve ever read, although the movie ‘Lincoln,’ based on it, is quite weak. Both, and all her books, are definitely worth reading!

For the last 100,000 years, we Sapiens have accumulated enormous power. But despite all our discoveries, inventions, and conquests, we now find ourselves in an existential crisis. The world is on the verge of ecological collapse. Misinformation abounds. And we are rushing headlong into the age of AI—a new information network that threatens to annihilate us. For all that we have accomplished, why are we so self-destructive? Nexus looks through the long lens of human history to consider how the flow of information has shaped us, and our world.

Great book! Informative and surprising
Reviewed: 10-20-24
The book Nexus is a fabulous read. I’ve loved his writing style ever since Sapiens was released, and I’ve been following his career closely. Nexus opens with some sensitive topics, particularly around religion, touching on the Bible, Jesus, and related subjects. While these may be controversial for some readers, it’s important to understand that he’s putting these issues into perspective to discuss artificial intelligence and the risks posed by certain phrases in the Bible throughout history.
He makes the point that the AI we know today is just the tip of the iceberg. Artificial intelligence could soon think independently in ways that we, as humans, have never imagined, and this could potentially spiral out of our control, which would have disastrous consequences for civilization and all living beings on Earth.
I really appreciated how he concluded the book, and I admired the boldness of starting with such challenging themes.

What to expect from the book Will, the biography of Will Smith? I like biographies, but really, when I looked at the amazon bestseller list, I couldn't see myself reading this bio. I turned down the first time, the second time, I bought 4 books before finally realizing that it was a solid book (the stars increasing, approaching 5 stars and the extremely positive reviews) and decided to buy and listen to it. And what a surprise! The book is fantastic! From start to finish, you can't stop listening. Even though it's the end of January, I know it's going to be one of the best (perhaps the best) book I'll read this year. Deserves a movie, starring Will Smith. I won't give spoilers here, but I recommend that anyone who likes to read, devour this book. The guy is a Midas -- everything he puts his hand to turns to gold. 4 Grammys, 8 #1 movies, TV series that lasted 6 years (Fresh Prince of BelAir) and lots and lots of twists. When he says his son gets a pass from Joe Montana's son (one of the best quarterbacks the world has ever had), and is complimented by Wayne Gretzky (the greatest hockey player in history), that's the level of the book, kinda surreal.

Overwork is the new normal. Rest is something to do when the important things are done - but they are never done. Looking at different forms of rest, from sleep to vacation, Silicon Valley futurist and business consultant Alex Soojung-Kim Pang dispels the myth that the harder we work the better the outcome. He combines rigorous scientific research with a rich array of examples of writers, painters, and thinkers - from Darwin to Stephen King - to challenge our tendency to see work and relaxation as antithetical.
