An accomplished photographer and the devoted mom of an adorable little boy, Allie Ross has just moved to an upscale DC suburb, the kind of place where parenting feels like a competitive sport. Allie’s desperate to make a good first impression. Then she’s framed for murder. The story is ok, the narration is hard to tolerate
Reviewed: 07-07-22
It took me a while to get into the story. I felt like it drug on and on. I pushed through, and it became more interesting as it developed some twists and turns. When you think you've figured it out, you realize you have not.
I almost returned the book. The narrator has a naturally whiny voice, and I struggled to tolerate listening to her for any great lengths of time. She was extremely convincing when speaking as the little boy, Cole. I wanted to crawl into my speakers and paddle his behind. Constant whining, mouthy, tantrum-throwing brat. His behavior was too much, and his character adds nothing to the story.
It's not a bad book, just hard to listen to.

Worst narrator ever…
Reviewed: 05-07-22
This is the worst narrator I’ve ever tried listening to. She does okay with the main character but all her others are terrible, downright awful. She often speaks in monotone attempting to have fluctuation, but everything comes off flat. The therapist is described as being in her 50’s, yet the narrator uses a voice that sounds like the raspy, age warn voice of a ninety year-old. She does the same with the male clergy. I’ve tried to get my brain to go with it and imagine the character anyway, but I can’t hang on anymore… she is so awful I’m returning the book. It’s too bad choosing the wrong narrator will ruin the book for the author.

This book is believably unbelievable. It is both shocking and fascinating. People judge and wonder how this can happen, but look at women or men that stay with abusive partners. It’s heartbreaking, but it’s real and it happens. I’m so happy for those that have broken free and have been able to overcome the torture they’ve been put through, that is a miracle in itself. I’m sorry for those that crazy b!$*h broke so bad they continue and always will continue to struggle. I sincerely hope she will be taken down soon, very soon! Read/listen to this book, it will grab you and hold you to the very end!

I didn't enjoy... sorry!
Reviewed: 10-08-17
I found it boring and endless droning. At first I only started fast forwarding bits at a time... eventually I skipped whole chapters. I really kept hoping it would get better that's why I hung on, but it didn't. It couldn't end fast enough. I rarely dislike a book... at worst give it 3 stars, say "eh" and move on. For me I didn't enjoy this book at all. However! No disrespect whatsoever to the author!!! Writing is a difficult job and for the record my mother liked it a lot. We are all entitled to different tastes. This just wasn't for me. Also, I usually like accents, this narrator I did not. She was whiny and grated on my nerves.
I wonder if this had anything to do with my not liking the book itself? There's a thought!

So many times books start out with a great story, then rush the ending with lack of closure like they lost their train of thought and creativity. That did NOT happen here! This was awesome to the very end! I mean that shock at the end... this book is award winning! I would love to see this become a movie! WOW, Sarah! I'm a fan! Great job! I truly loved this book!!!!

I loved this book!
I enjoyed it from the first word to the last.
Many books start off good and then end like they are in hurry to suddenly just get it over and really don't know how to tie it up leaving me disappointed. Not this one! I'm going to follow this author and see if she keeps up this great writing. Thank you Joy! This book was a joy to "read".

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan ("the devil") and placed a bounty on his head.

Narration awful! Couldn't finish!
Reviewed: 12-16-14
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I love Lisa Gardner's books in general, but I couldn't get through this book due to the narrator, so I can't give a fair rating to the story.
Has Gone turned you off from other books in this genre?
No.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narration was awful! The voice changes, the inflections, everything was wrong. I really tried to keep listening, thinking I would get used to her like I have others with other books. Nope, never did, never will. Maybe it was just this book for her, but it was awful.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
At this point I can't say what because really, truly, I was trying so hard to suffer through the narration and telling myself I will get used to her, that I can't remember a whole lot about whether or not there was.
Any additional comments?
I will try reading the book, it's possible I will like the story itself. The narration was so awful, it ruined listening to the book for me.

Finally...a good book!
Reviewed: 09-04-07
First, I'd like to comment on the narrator, Mary Stuart Masterson. She is by far the absolute BEST I've ever listened to. (And I've listened to a lot.) Her voice is pleasant and enticing. She draws you into the story right from the very first word. She is very consistent and smooth. I can't say enough about what an awesome job she did reading this book. Now, my comments on the book, itself. Awesome! I am already a James Patterson fan, but this collaboration with Michael Ledwidge is fantastic. The story has original surprises all in the right places and I must say, a book that finally knows how to sum up and close a story. I am so tired of books that have a great story, then suddenly seem like they rushed to finding an ending that left you saying to yourself, "Well that was a waste of a great storyline." Anyway, I have only the best to say about the book, "The Quickie" and the narrator reading it, Mary Stuart Masterson. Happy listening to everyone!
