Story
Yuval Noah Harari's 21 Lessons for the 21st Century is a probing and visionary investigation into today's most urgent issues as we move into the uncharted territory of the future. As technology advances faster than our understanding of it, hacking becomes a tactic of war, and the world feels more polarized than ever, Harari addresses the challenge of navigating life in the face of constant and disorienting change and raises the important questions we need to ask ourselves in order to survive.

I have never heard a story of this type that references pre-Columbian mythology. I want more of this!!! Tenoch Huerta’s performance was great.
I would love to share this with my English speaking friends. I hope there are translations in the works.

Story
Mano Majra is a place, Khushwant Singh tells us at the beginning of this novel, where Sikhs and Muslims have lived together in peace for hundreds of years. Then one day, at the end of the summer, the "ghost train" arrives, a silent funeral train loaded with the bodies of thousands of refuges, bringing the village its first taste of the horrors of the civil war. Train to Pakistan is the story of this isolated village that is plunged into the abyss of religious hate. It is also the story of a Sikh boy and a Muslim girl whose love endures and transcends the ravages of war.

I believ this book gives us a glimpse of the conflict between the cultures in India. It was very educational. It reminds one that politics drive divisions between people. It is not a natural state of being.

Excellent, insightful book

This book offers a different perspective than the autobiography since it goes beyond Malcom X’s view of himself. I feel like I have a much more complete, unbiased, more human view of this great American story. It is clear that the author did extensive research on this subject and was able to bring in documentation not available at the time of the autobiography.
My only critique is in the performance of the audio presentation. Although I enjoyed the actor’s delivery style overall, he has a tendency to tail off phrases with lower volume at the end. This was often difficult to hear as I listened on my commute. I often had to rewind and turn up the volume to make out the end of a sentence. Other than that, I am very glad I picked up this title. It was very informative and educational.

In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.

Good backstory - a little too much emotion
Reviewed: 08-26-20
I liked reading this but I was hoping to get a more clinical evaluation of the subject. I appreciated the insight into the man as he was brought up but I didn’t really learn anything new as to who he is. Perhaps it is just a confirmation from someone in his family of the things we can all see. I suggest that the author should have left off so much emphasis on how her and her brother were cheated out of their inheritance as it gives the impression of bitterness and leaves one feeling like we are cheering for her to finally get her vengeance on her uncle. I think it deviates from the subject and since it implicates the rest of the family, it dilutes the message of the story.
I do appreciate her writing this as it, again, confirms what I think any thinking person can see, that this man is a weak bully with a lot of emotional issues.
It is worth reading, especially if you somehow believe Donald Trump somehow deserves credit for anything.

How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

This is my 3rd Gladwell book and it doesn’t disappoint. He is a great writer leading us to understand some of the biggest challenges we face as a society. He does it with data and logic and without emotion. He is a great storyteller and in this audiobook maximizes the medium by adding recordings of the people involved and music to enhance the experience of the story. It might be the best use of audiobooks I’ve heard yet.

Beautiful book

This ideas behind this book are more relevant today than ever. It asks us to look at our world through the eyes of a child and evaluate it then. It makes all of our conflict much easier to resolve. It removes all built up prejudice and just asks the simple questions. A child does not use history or stereotypes to judge people. A child simply asks and senses if you are a good person they can trust or not. Harper Lee does a beautiful job of challenging us to view the world the way we did when we were children. It is beautifully put together and a definite classic of American literature. Sissy Spacek does a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

When Gretchen Carlson made the decision to "walk off the set" and speak up about sexual harassment in the workplace, she jumped off a cliff by herself, but it led to a new calling: empowering women to reclaim their power against any injustice. After the former Miss America, mother of two, and star news anchor stood up and spoke out, women all over the world joined the movement and began to take back their lives, careers, and dignity. Gretchen became the voice for the voiceless.

A very educational book

This book served to provide me the perspective that women have to navigate everyday at work. One hears stories of predators and rapists and considers these extreme outliers but I had never considered that every woman has to navigate things I have never had to about as a man in the workplace. This was a sobering lesson about things I had never stopped to think about deeply enough. I would recommend this book to everyone but most importantly to all men. The issues discussed here are more a men’s issue than a women’s issue. We all have a role to play.

A moving coming-of-age story set in the 1900s, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn follows the lives of 11-year-old Francie Nolan, her younger brother Neely, and their parents, Irish immigrants who have settled in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn. Johnny Nolan is as loving and fanciful as they come, but he is also often drunk and out of work, unable to find his place in the land of opportunity.

Beautiful book; wonderful performance

Kate Burton does a wonderful job bringing these characters to life. Complete with all the accents, foreign and American (Brooklyn NY). The story is the quintessential American novel. It tells a real story about real people and how they deal with struggle. It tells how they deal with pain. The story is about the forming of an American family in its first generations and how they deal with poverty and class and life's challenges. Anyone who has ever dealt with any of these things will relate. The author does a beautiful job of describing the pain that a child feels when they recognize they are being treated unfairly.
The story makes you laugh, cry and rejoice. All cliches I know, but genuine as you enjoy this novel.
