Story
Nate Singer is one of the good guys. As team captain, Nate’s whole deal is sticking to the playbook, supporting his team, and keeping his own issues buried. Especially since the team is finally winning, due in no small part to his chemistry with one particular hotshot teammate. Zach Reed has a bad-boy reputation. And it’s cost him. Zach’s past exploits landed him on the worst team in the league. But that also gave him the best friend he’s ever had. For three years, his friendship with Nate has grown, making them an intimidating duo on the ice—and forming an intense bond off of it as well.

Story
When Caleb Chance walked out in Detroit five years ago, leaving his band, millions of his fans and his lover behind, Leo knew he could never forgive. Some things, no matter what the cause, are unforgivable. But Leo never expected Caleb to show up again, clean and sober and wanting to get their band, Star Shadow, back together. He definitely never expected to agree to Caleb's plan. He never expected to confront the love of his life again - or the disaster of his past, the hopelessness of his future, and every terrible thing he's been carrying inside him.

Love Kirt Graves
Reviewed: 07-21-24
The book itself is a little bit cliche, specifically the too long paintball scene that was trying too hard to be symbolic but just came off as an eye roller. But, overall, I liked the low angst story, even if the burn was too slow. The 5 star review is really for Kirt Graves who has become one of my favorite narrators. He made the overly obvious parts of the storyline work, narrating in a way that makes the slight hyperbole seem like part of the character’s personality. A less skilled narrator probably couldn’t have managed that nuance.

Story
Ever since Clay Saxon's parents passed away a year ago, he's been stuck in a rut, running their business, and suffering from the worst writer's block ever. But when Syrus Albie, a.k.a. yellow sweater guy (you'll see), walks into The End Book Store, Clay's mundane little world turns to sunshine. I don't want to ruin it, but I can definitely say, when an introverted-as-hell narrator finally meets his favorite author and crush, all of his usual protocols go up in flames.

Fave of the Series

This whole series is great but this novella is my fave. The story is short but dense and dripping with imagery and emotion. Great writing and narration deserving of its characters. I don’t love spending money on novellas but I’d buy again in a heartbeat.

Story
For the last three years, I've lived and breathed hockey with one goal: team captain. There's only one thing standing in my way. TJ Beckett. Beck is irresponsible and immature, and I've hated him since the moment we met freshman year. Yet the coaches see something in him I obviously can't, and they refuse to choose between us. The captain spot is going to a team vote. And the team thinks that what we need are a bunch of challenges to prove our worth.

Really enjoyable read. I appreciated that the love story happened early and the conflict was navigated for the rest of the story as a couple. Iggy Thoma is one of my fave narrators and Alexander Cendese was a perfect pick for Beck. Worth the credit.

Just Boring
Reviewed: 02-18-24
I listened to the book before this one and was annoyed by the dynamic of the MCs. One patronizing and the other helpless. UGH. This second book was essentially the exact same story as the first… one MC weak and small, the other enabling and patronizing, the first doing stupid stuff to put himself in danger, the other blaming himself because the first was an idiot. Too much mind numbing detail about the hospital (yes, we get it that the author did proper research, but this book was in dire need of an editor) and too much noise from extraneous characters. Just a lot of unnecessary time spent on filler BS that did nothing to enhance the narrative. 👎🏻👎🏻

Story
Zach Glasser has put up with a lot for the sport he loves. Endless days on the road, playing half-decent baseball in front of half-full stadiums and endless nights alone, pretending this is the life he's always wanted. The thing is, it could have been everything he ever wanted—if only he'd had the guts to tell his family, tell the club, that he was in love with his teammate Eugenio Morales. Well, ex-teammate now. When Zach wouldn't—couldn't—come out, Eugenio made the devastating choice to move on, demanding a trade away from Oakland. Away from Zach.

Such a lovely story, and beautifully written. This narrator is perfect for the tenor of this book. And the baseball deets are brilliant… beyond the typical sports romance that glosses over specifics just enough for the reader to buy in. This author either loves baseball or knows someone who does. It’s as much a love story about the game as it is about the MCs.
Steamy moments are definitely secondary to the story so look elsewhere if you want graphic bedroom scenes.

Jasper’s been my best friend my whole life. From losing my family when I was young, to living together and running our business, it’s always been me and Jasp. I feel more for him than I should, but confessing the truth would be the first step to losing him. Our lives are so entwined, it’s hard to tell where one of us ends and the other begins. It’s killing me more each day to be this close to him and not be able to call him mine, so when it hurts too much, the only choice is to walk away.

Riley Hart is hit and miss for me. But when she hits, it bowls me over. Introspective and poignant. Disarmingly complex. Sweet and fiery. Layered and nuanced. And John Solo has officially made it to the top three narrators I’ve ever heard. This performance was really heart stopping. Jacob Morgan and Christian Fox have serious competition in this guy. Sheesh.
