Story
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

When the book first opened, I felt it was a bit long in the tooth as it described Phoebe's unhappy life. I almost gave up but am SO glad I didn't. Ended up really enjoying the story all around. Solid performance by the narrator, as well.

I like Elin's books - they're fun and engaging. Not this one. It was petty and icky. Felt like the narrator had a hard time creating different voices for characters too. Hard hard pass.

I enjoyed the story but it took me a LONG TIME (very) to get acclimated to the narrator. Didn't love him. After a while, once the book was flowing, did I feel like he was the right fit for the story. I did enjoy the story overall.

I thought the two narrators were great. The story itself did not live up to the hype. I felt it ran long, I got irritated by it and wished it was over sooner. Sorry to all who loved it.

Welcome to Cobble Hill. In this eclectic Brooklyn neighborhood, private storms brew amongst four married couples and their children. There’s ex-groupie Mandy, so underwhelmed by motherhood and her current physical state that she fakes a debilitating disease to get the attention of her skateboarding, ex-boyband member husband Stuart. Samantha Heather Mackey couldn't be more of an outsider in her small, highly selective MFA program at New England's Warren University. A scholarship student who prefers the company of her dark imagination to that of most people, she is utterly repelled by the rest of her fiction writing cohort—a clique of unbearably twee rich girls who call each other "Bunny", and seem to move and speak as one. But everything changes when Samantha receives an invitation to the Bunnies' fabled "Smut Salon"....

It's the weirdest book you'll read, but I have to say that I enjoyed it. Real? Not real? In her mind? Not? The book takes you on a wild ride and you want to know more. Some of it is confusing on purpose. Narrator did a great job. A few spots when the descriptions (towards the end) of her thoughts droned on for a bit but other than that, a very unique read. I'd give it a try.

This is the second book in my entire life that I couldn't finish. The performance was fine from those I heard but the story itself was terrible. It was over described, pretentious...ugh. I wanted to like it so much but I just could've bear listening to another sentence. Sorry. I hope others enjoyed it.

Towards the end of the book it ran really really really really long. It was good to get closure at the end, though I think that there was probably an hour of content
that could have been chopped. I do love her style of writing, so I continued to power through it. Performance was great.
