About this listen

A woman is forced to question her own identity in this riveting and emotionally charged thriller by the blockbuster best-selling author of The Good Girl, Mary Kubica.

Jessie Sloane is on the path to rebuilding her life after years of caring for her ailing mother. She rents a new apartment and applies for college. But when the college informs her that her social security number has raised a red flag, Jessie discovers a shocking detail that causes her to doubt everything she’s ever known.

Finding herself suddenly at the center of a bizarre mystery, Jessie tumbles down a rabbit hole, which is only exacerbated by grief and a relentless lack of sleep. As days pass and the insomnia worsens, it plays with Jessie’s mind. Her judgment is blurred; her thoughts are hampered by fatigue. Jessie begins to see things until she can no longer tell the difference between what’s real and what she’s only imagined.

Meanwhile, 20 years earlier and 250 miles away, another woman’s split-second decision may hold the key to Jessie’s secret past. Has Jessie’s whole life been a lie, or have her delusions gotten the best of her?

Towards the end of the book it ran really really really really long. It was good to get closure at the end, though I think that there was probably an hour of content
that could have been chopped. I do love her style of writing, so I continued to power through it. Performance was great.

It's not very often that I haven't figured out the ending of a book by the fourth chapter! Good job!

Twisted

Great read. The reader in the book did a great job. Thought I figured it out but I did not!

Must read/listen

I was dying for Eden. How badly she wanted a baby! Any woman who has had trouble getting pregnant can surely relate. Definitely did not expect the ending....but I am so glad that even we, the readers, got closure. Excellent read!

No one can lure you in a story like Mary Kubica!

So I just discovered Mary Kubica a week ago and have downloaded 5 of her books. I’ve made it through three and a half of them and am addicted.. I was addicted after the very first book I listened to. I love the way all her characters come together, how they’re all linked in the end. I love how the stories are fold from different people and their points of view. It keeps it interesting. Can’t wait to download more because I have no doubt in my mind that I’ll listen to my last two books like I’ve listened to the first three, every spare second I have, turning them in even if I just have a couple of minutes, taking a drive of just sitting in my truck just listening for as long as I can, sitting in my truck listening whole day turns to night or night turns to morning, driving into work, taking a shower, stepping outside for a break. I can’t stop, legit feeling like an addiction as I crave the next chapter and the next and the next. Thank you Mary, you’re brilliant..

It was really good until the end. What kind of crazy sh*t was that?
That ending was a little....out there......

I truly enjoyed the book, but it was unrealistic. I still recommend listening to this book. It is very interesting.

The narration was done well.

Unrealistic

The book has a very interesting premise but is one tone of sad the whole way through. No ups and downs, just sad–missing mom, not sleeping, lost and despairing. And then Eden's storyline which just spirals throughout as well. I couldn't wait for the end so I could stop feeling miserable and read something with more ups and downs. The writing is good and the performance is brilliant but the story frustrated me.

Well written and interesting, but one tone of sad.

I love all her books but I couldn’t get into this one as much. I felt parts where a little dragged out and the story flipped a lot

A little slow moving
