Story
So, what if I grew up behind bars? It's not about where you start; it's all about the journey. Mine took me to Kandahar, where a sea of mines lies in wait under the hot Afghan desert. There, every car could be a bomb; every human your killer. The only thing standing between you and death is me, K-9 Lovely, scouring the desert to detect whatever hungers to kill you. I have the best nose in the business and the guts to match it.

Grapes, and onions are toxic to dogs, and garlic is too! Also, MWD’s, (Military Working Dogs), are allowed to sleep with their handlers, but ARE NOT allowed to run around WITHOUT their handlers, much less met & greet other dogs unless BOTH are on leash! Such a shame when authors don’t do their research!

Mispronunciations and wrong inflections abound; it’s VERY jarring! Really detracts from what would otherwise have been a decent book. And, there was no discernible difference between the voices of a 30 year old man, and a 16 year old girl!

Story
It was the winter of 1902; South African park ranger Harry Wolhuter was on horseback, patrolling the area for poachers at Kruger National Park. Little did he know, he was also being stalked. Out of nowhere, two huge male lions pounced on Harry's horse, knocking the man to the ground. The horse ran off, leaving Harry to fend for himself. One of the lions lunged at him - piercing deep into his flesh and bones - and began to drag him far into the jungle to finish him off.

Unexpectedly, I really enjoyed this book!Narrator was great when relating the stories as if in first person, but he had, sometimes, at least in the beginning, almost a mono tonal quality.
Perhaps he got better, or maybe he just grew on me!😉

Voice Performer is truly very talented. I’m certain I could not do as well. But PLEASE learn the correct pronunciations of REPEATED words, 🙄🙏🏼 The adjective, ‘tarry,’ does NOT, here, rhyme with the verb, ‘carry,’! It references the black slime mold which is black & sticky, LIKE TAR….!

Pronunciation change of character names🙄
Reviewed: 03-02-24
It’s difficult enough to keep fictional names straight without seeing how they’re spelled, but to have to deal with a drastic change in the pronunciation of the country name, as well as the name of the main character was just jarring.
“Morgen” became, “Morgone” with the second syllable accented instead of the first, and “Hed” , pronounced as ‘Head’ throughout the first book, has inexplicably become, “Heed”!
Consistency would have been appreciated.
