A memoir about Calling

The author, Paula Farris, did a wonderful job of telling the story verbally and orally. I gained a better understanding of the two types of calling from the author’s examples.

I like to read YA Lit from time to time because I teach HS English and it helps me to talk about books teens read. This one was surprising I thought it would be entirely about the girl, but it had several stories.

The audio version was good. I was disappointed by the story’s focus on LeMond’s personal struggles with Armstrong.

This is a story of love lost and love found. The love ebbs and flows throughout the story with mystery attached to all that is happening.

There is lots of intrigue and tangled webs in this mystery. I found it hard to put down in the last hundred pages, but parts were cliche.

I read/listened to this book because many years ago my students found it worth reading. I wanted to know what they found. I found the book hard to start, but once the adventure began I found it hard to put down.

Challenging and Enlightening Memoir

This book was enlightening and challenging to read. It was enlightening because it is a memoir of a young, African-American woman, and I am an old, white man. Prescod shares the difficult moments of her life growing up in a mostly-white community and working in the fashion industry. The challenging part is understanding the role I played in the lives of minorities who I have grown-up around and worked with. This book made me reflect on my actions and words that caused harm to others.
