I tried...
Reviewed: 11-13-22
I have tried repeatedly on this series. I REALLY wanted to love it. The first book was ok but jumped around a lot.
The second book in the series (Valor) lost me. I have a friend that loved it so went back to the first book AGAIN and tried to follow it into the second one with no success.
I love the idea of each chapter being a different person and situation/problem, but I didn't feel in this case it was as successful.
After them talking about how much they loved it I gave this more of a chance than I have given many series, and have now given up.
These books are clearly great for the right person, but with all the back and forth, that person is not me. However, I DO like the narrator, and would love to hear him read something else so will watch for that.

Story
The Banished Lands has a violent past where armies of men and giants clashed in battle, but now giants are seen, the stones weep blood, and giant wyrms are stirring. Those who can still read the signs see a threat far greater than the ancient wars. For if the Black Sun gains ascendancy, mankind's hopes and dreams will fall to dust....

Story
Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body. Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here. Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster.

Uhh...next book please...
I was sad when it ended. Not because the ending was sad or anything, but because it was over and that snuck up on me.
Please make the next one much longer but write it in the same beautiful and surprisingly entertaining descriptive meandering style. It was wonderful.
Oh, and if it is not too much to ask-soon?
However many are written in this series, I'm in for the longhaul...

Story
It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Maybe an advisor or a google search for pronunciation would have been good. The story and writing is amazing so yes, I gave it 5 stars even though the performance was not good. It grated on me every time he said molē gear, m-r-a-p etc. Dude...you had ONE job. Wish someone could re-record this because the books are GREAT!

This is a great new way to look at alcoholism, drug addiction etc and makes more sense than AA or NA did when I went with a family member.
I think this is a healthy new take and is a lot of fun to read or listen to even if you aren't already familiar with the author...

The stories are touching, performances outstanding, and it is the best thing I've listened to in the recent past due to the emotion it evokes. Give it a listen...you'll be glad you did!
