About this listen

A laugh-out-loud, slice-of-life martial-arts fantasy about...farming????

Jin Rou wanted to be a cultivator. A man powerful enough to defy the heavens. A master of martial arts. A lord of spiritual power. Unfortunately for him, he died, and now I’m stuck in his body.

Arrogant Masters? Heavenly Tribulations? All that violence and bloodshed? Yeah, no thanks. I’m getting out of here.

Farm life sounds pretty great. Tilling a field by hand is fun when you’ve got the strength of ten men—though maybe I shouldn’t have fed those Spirit Herbs to my pet rooster. I’m not used to seeing a chicken move with such grace...but Qi makes everything kind of wonky, so it’s probably fine.

Instead of a lifetime of battle, my biggest concerns are building a house, the size of my harvest, and the way the girl from the nearby village glares at me when I tease her.

A slow, simple, fulfilling life in a place where nothing exciting or out of the ordinary ever happens...right?

The first volume of the blockbuster progression-fantasy series—with more than 16 million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Between film, television, literature, and audio—2022 could easily be proclaimed the Year of the Fantasy, much to the delight of fans among us. But when it came to picking the best of the best, the glut of fantastic content also significantly increased the CR (challenge rating). This year’s winner edged ahead of the rest thanks to its atmospheric, suck-you-in (pun intended) audio experience, but every performance on this list transported us.

Absolutely hilarious.

I can’t wait for this series to grow. I’ve read every chapter available and didn’t think I would come back to it after just finishing but Travis Baldree made it even better. I can’t recommend it enough.

Would recommend

Pretty laid back, which I like. Might be boring for some, it's a "slice of life" story mixed with a pretty good bit of action, especially through the side characters. That's one of the things I like about the slice of life type of story; it gives a bigger picture of the other people involved in the main character's life. This one does that, and drops a few hints as far as fantasy-esq world building.

Another thing I like about it is that it talks about some of the benefits of a simple (to clarify; straight forward, not easy) life; mainly, that what you build stacks up over time, and that no matter how simple the job, it's part of something more complex and provides something that others rely on.

I also like the overall moral message of the story, and the character interaction, like how even the goofy characters stop, take time for others, and think. It's something simple that I forget to do sometimes, so I like seeing the characters in this book do that.

Other than that, it's just a good story. There's bits of action, comedy, not too much drama and so on. It isn't complex, the story and training aren't complex, so if you're expecting a political thriller by one of the greats, you'll be disappointed. Though, if anyone expected that based on the name and cover art, I would have to question the thought process.

10/10 great voice acting, fun story, relatable characters.

Unique

I kind of rolled the dice on this one because I haven’t heard about anyone recommend it and I really enjoyed it. It’s a pretty unique storyline and it gave a lot of good development without coming across and drawn out or babbling. Totally worth it.

Tons of Memorable Characters

Lots of laughs, lots of personality for the main characters, this story was a delightful read. My only complaint is that some of the narrator's voices for minor characters were difficult to understand.

You tell 'em, Big T!

I've been reading this story online since day one, and loved every moment. Having a narrator as good as Travis Baldwin do the audiobook is just the cherry on top of the sundae. cannot recommend this magnificent deconstruction of the Xianxia genre enough.

A clucking great laugh out loud listen

If you’re looking for great literature the explores the soul of the human experience…go away, this is not the book for which you are looking. If you’re looking for some great mind candy that will lift your mood with its charming children’s book for adults nature, then this is 100% the book for you! There is soul swapping across realities, evil monks of legendary martial arts prowess, spiritual farming and a bit of young love. And did I mention the sentient spirit animals? Lead by the great Big D (rooster) a small band of farm animals become the devout disciples of our hero. What’s not to enjoy?

About time

I found this book on youtube and the narrator olny did about half of it. Soom as I seen it, I got it because I know it was going to be a good listen. If you are not 100% on buying it, look it up there and see if you like it.
