Story
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

A beautifully hearted woman..

This is the second book I’ve read about women delivering library books to mountain people but the first to read of their poverty.
The main character of this book had a passion for her community and could actually see how these books could help educate and encourage people. Even though she was horribly judged for the color of her skin by her community and white people, she stayed passionate about her mission.
Enjoyed this book so much, my next book will be- Book Woman’s Daughter, a sequel..

Not a fan of the reader, she was very distracting. I don’t know, just not the right voice. It helped a lot increase the reading speed.
The story line was good.. An early women’s right activist. Inspiring and creative..

Clara Parkes is so enjoyable to listen to as she reads her books. She is an eloquent writer, excellent with details. I’ve had this book for months and finally made myself listen to you. I really really enjoyed it. Excellent book taking knitters to places they may never be able to visit in person. Thank you Clara!

One of the best books of the year!

What a great book. I couldn't stop listening. The audible reader was excellent. She did a great job with all the different voices in the book.
At the beginning I was overwhelmed with the number of characters introduced in the book. It didn't take long for me to figure out who was and wasn't important. I thought I figured out how the book was going to end but I was wrong and loved that it wasn't predictable.
One of the best books I've read all year. Thank you Alexandra Andrews!

This book was gifted to me by my mother in law and wasn't really on my reading list. I kept hiding it and it kept resurfacing. It ended up being a breath of fresh air just like Kathie Lee. I enjoyed every story and every lesson shared. Cannot wait to try some of her wine!

This is my third book to read about the German war and I think its my favorite. The main character is very young but so very brave. The hardship these character endured is unbelievable and just makes me appreciate the smallest of things especially right now during the pandemic. This young girl took the task of surviving to the art of surviving. The setting descriptions and every day living experiences were so detailed it was easy to imagine. Loved every moment of this book.

Thanks for opening my eyes to the gifts of a knitting group. I cried and laughed while listening to this book. Since I am a knitter, it was easy for me to imagine the details provided in the book. I teach knitting a little and now I have a new way of explaining it.
