Dedication to justice
Reviewed: 11-02-24
This story was absolutely riveting as Lauren tells the story of discovering her mothers truth and seeking justice. It is a perfect example of how easily crime can be made to go away by the right people. I look forward to hearing more of her journey as more people come forward.

Story
Felicia, Lizbeth Rose’s younger half-sister and student at the Grigori school within the capital of the New Holy Russian Empire in San Diego, is caught between secrets and powerful family struggles. As a distant relative to the Tsar, she provides an essential service to him by providing blood transfusions for his hemophilia, and she is thus given rare access and dismissed as if cattle. At the Grigori school she is seen as a charity case, a poor orphan with no prospects and no sign of magical prowess—the latter which Felicia keeps purposefully hidden.

An enjoyable twist

I was pleasantly surprised that this book focused on Felicia. It brought a fresh breath to the series. While I missed Lizbeth and Eli and still want to know about their new life together, it was great learning more about their families. This one went fast. I was super engaged.
I love Eve’s narration. Only downside was there was some obvious voiceover corrections that were a tad annoying and pulled you out of the moment.

Story
When a young man is found gruesomely murdered in a London houseboat, it triggers questions about three women who knew him. Laura is the troubled one-night-stand last seen in the victim’s home. Carla is his grief-stricken aunt, already mourning the recent death of yet another family member. And Miriam is the nosy neighbor clearly keeping secrets from the police. Three women with separate connections to the victim. Three women who are – for different reasons – simmering with resentment. Who are, whether they know it or not, burning to right the wrongs done to them.

Just ok. Nothing spectacular

I like Paula Hawkins prior two books but this one just irked me. It wasn’t suspenseful and it was predictable. I finished it only because Rosamund provided great narration.
I have issue with how Miriam was described and treated. Too much emphasis was put on her unlikeableness. I just felt the author was being a bully in the way she described her. I couldn’t get over it. She didn’t go into physical detail or name calling like that with other characters.
I also found the story jumping around and retelling from different perspectives both boring and confusing.
I had no sympathy for any of the characters and found none of them likes me except the dog. Poor little Black and Tan terrier.

Story
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

So painful

I don’t even know where to start. It’s like the authors just threw every idea they had into the book. The first twelve chapters or so could have been left out. It was like two books Frankensteined together.
