Publisher's summary

#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Charlaine Harris returns to her alternate history of the United States where magic is an acknowledged but despised power in this fourth installment of the Gunnie Rose series.

Felicia, Lizbeth Rose’s younger half-sister and student at the Grigori school within the capital of the New Holy Russian Empire in San Diego, is caught between secrets and powerful family struggles. As a distant relative to the Tsar, she provides an essential service to him by providing blood transfusions for his hemophilia, and she is thus given rare access and dismissed as if cattle. At the Grigori school she is seen as a charity case, a poor orphan with no prospects and no sign of magical prowess—the latter which Felicia keeps purposefully hidden. And yet, when a kidnapping attempt is made upon Felicia her past and her future crash together in violent ways.

Continuing immediately after The Russian Cage, this fantastical fourth book takes a side step, exploring the Holy Russian Empire while also showcasing the dynamic depths of magic within Harris’s alternate North America in curious mysteries. Felicia, it turns out, is far more than the Russian-Mexican waif Lizbeth rescued, and the journey of discovery she is on is filled with magical assassins and desperation, but above it all is her courage to never give in to the limitations imposed upon her.

Do not miss this installment!!

This was the perfect follow up story for the next in the series! I was up all night trying to find out what was going to happen next! I loved getting to know Felicia! And Eva Kaminsky’s talents for these characters and story-telling are spot on! I seldom write reviews for audible books. But I found this one quite enjoyable and the story outstanding! Love this series from Charlaine Harris! I hope there is another one!

An enjoyable twist

I was pleasantly surprised that this book focused on Felicia. It brought a fresh breath to the series. While I missed Lizbeth and Eli and still want to know about their new life together, it was great learning more about their families. This one went fast. I was super engaged.

I love Eve’s narration. Only downside was there was some obvious voiceover corrections that were a tad annoying and pulled you out of the moment.

So many questions.

I didn’t love this one as much, as I’m 35 and being in a 15 year olds brain isn’t my normal read. Also there are so many inconsistencies. Mostly - if Felicia is this important to the czar - WHY does she not have an income? Protection? Someone providing for her? She’s basically homeless living at the school. I don’t know how it’s written but I hate when she reads words differently. Is it karkoroff or Karkorova? Is it savorough or savorou?

JAGA the first book in the series

So impressed at how both the author and narrator made the new main character feel and sound different from the previous MC! Made it another complete experience from start to finish.

Wasn’t sure at first, but came to really enjoy this new storyline

Happy to see the series broadening and hope it means more to come! The reader was excellent with teen and adult voices in a variety of accents.

Love it

It was not what I expected because I didn’t read the summary. But it was a pleasant surprise.

2nd time I've listened to it.

Great story. I've listened to them all and they all get 5-5-5 in my evaluation. I hope the next book in the series will come out tomorrow.
