This is the second time I’ve read/listen to this book and each time I’ve enjoyed it immensely. Great characters and plot with fantastic world building.

The Sunny Side is a sweet contemporary romance novel set within the world of fashion and supermodels. It’s the first book in the Model Agency series but it does have reoccurring characters from previous books. However, this book can be read as a standalone.

I really enjoyed this book. The story was sweet with some fantastic characters and banter. There was some hot, steamy moments, but even better was the sweet relationship that developed between the two main characters. The audiobook was well done and I thought the audio performance was stellar.

So far, in my experience with K.L. Slater’s books, there really are no likeable characters. All the characters are a bit flat and extremely flawed. There’s none of the depth of personality and character growth that make flawed characters fun. This book, The Secret, is no exception. The plot meandered a lot with out anything really happening. All excitement was in the last 20 minutes of the book and fell a little flat.

Finding Grace started off thrilling but Lucy’s past secrets lost me and my interest quickly dwindled. I was a bit disappointed with the overall execution of the plot of this book.

Liar has to be my favorite books of the K.L. Slater binge that I’m on. I really enjoyed how twisted and self-righteous all the characters were and thought the power struggle between the two female main characters, Judi and Amber, was done well. From the first chapter, the reader knows something violent has occurred, but exactly how it happened and what lead up to it are a mystery. The final showdown at the end was dramatic but over way too quick. I wanted to see the fallout, but the story just ended and it felt uncomplete. An epilogue would have been greatly appreciated.

The plot and character development rested heavily on mental illness – especially untreated mental illness of vulnerable individuals. This did add to the tension of who was a reliable narrator and who wasn’t, but overall, I found the plot to be bit dull since it leaned so heavily on the dysfunction of the characters. It didn’t feel like a clever plot twist or story to me.

This was a typical K.L. Slater book – twists and turns with a complicated mother-child relationship at the heart of the plot. Slater doesn’t really write likeable characters – she writes flawed characters who are just selfish and oblivious enough that they manage to fall into a web of lies and trouble quite easily. That’s Emma – a complete mess of a human who’s own baggage and issues clouds over her judgement and leaves her daughter in mortal danger. The book was interesting, but the ending left me feeling cheated. An epilogue would have been appropriate to help give the book a proper closure.

The Silent Ones was an interesting spiral into a dysfunctional family and the consequences of their actions. This is a book to enjoy shallowly – meaning, don’t try to over analyze things otherwise you’ll be able to easily find all the weak points in the story. I enjoyed the story, and just went along for the ride.

Davo was a wonderful short novel about love in unexpected places. This was a fast paced book focused more on the emotional journey between Fergus and Davo. Their relationship was adorable and sweet. There were a lot of sweet moments in this book as well as some funny ones – the moment with the pet bird is one of my favorites. Overall, short and sweet but really worth it.

The audiobook was narrated by Glen Lloyd who did a fantastic job. I really enjoyed how he voiced the characters. The audiobook production was well done.

Somebody to Hold is the second book in the Tyler Jamison series, and oh did it take me an emotional rollercoaster. This book should not be read as a standalone – start with book one – it’s so much better that way. Tyler faces an impossible decision, but it’s a decision he makes with determination and no second-thoughts. His devotion and love for Ian is awe-inspiring, and I felt how strong their bond was in every page of this book. I enjoyed the story immensely, but be prepared -this is a character driven and relationship driven book. There’s action and suspense, but it’s secondary to the relationship.

The audiobook was a dual narration between J.F. Harding and Jack DuPont who do a fantastic job. I love their voices and they complement each other perfectly. The audiobook production was well done.
