Story
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

A Masterpiece
Reviewed: 03-12-22
Having read other books of Gladwell, I already knew the high quality of his writing and all the insight one gets from his work. This audio book, though, is exactly what he calls it, an enhanced experience, making it the most interesting and compelling work he's ever done. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, even the most gloom passages. It felt as if we were having a conversation and all the original audio that he added were a great plus, transporting the listener to that moment in time. Thanks for such a good work!

Story
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability—the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome—is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall.

One of the best books I've read this year
Reviewed: 08-31-16
I read somewhere someone saying that you can have truth overload from Brené Brown's work. And that's for real. This book is so full of insight and wisdom that you have to take your time reading it (or listening to it). Being it read by the author herself made me feel like we were having a conversation. I highly recommend it.

Story
How can we be our strongest selves in life's most challenging situations? We often approach these situations - job interviews, difficult conversations, speaking up for ourselves - with anxiety and leave them with regret. Moments that require us to be genuine and powerful instead cause us to feel phoney and powerless, preventing us from being our best selves.

It's a great book, narration by the author is great, you can feel that she's really emotive and motivated by what she does, her research. I really enjoyed it and it makes you think about a whole lot of stuff. I recommend it.

Story
Only once did David Foster Wallace give a public talk on his views on life, during a commencement address given in 2005 at Kenyon College. This is the audio recording of David Foster Wallace delivering that very address. How does one keep from going through their comfortable, prosperous adult life unconsciously? How do we get ourselves out of the foreground of our thoughts and achieve compassion? The speech captures Wallace's electric intellect as well as his grace in attention to others.

The best 20 minutes of my life.

Heart breaking in a way
Reviewed: 04-26-16
Someone commented about the music at the end and I have to agree that it is a bit annoying as it makes it hard to listen to Wallace's final words of the speech.
The text, though, is heart breaking and yet superb. David Foster Wallace was a great writer, a great mind, so sensitive and so keen on his remarks. I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to think more about life and why we're here.

This book has really interesting information, and could be very helpful in bringing needed insight about habits I want to change and others that I want to implement. The narration is really good, you don't get sleepy or bored.
