Really liked this cute, light read. I was sucked into the story and didn’t want to put it down. Especially relatable because everyone has had a first love. Didn’t expect much but was more than pleasantly surprised:)

Story
William Waters grew up in a house silenced by tragedy, where his parents could hardly bear to look at him, much less love him—so when he meets the spirited and ambitious Julia Padavano in his freshman year of college, it’s as if the world has lit up around him. With Julia comes her family, as she and her three sisters are inseparable: Sylvie, the family’s dreamer, is happiest with her nose in a book; Cecelia is a free-spirited artist; and Emeline patiently takes care of them all.

The perfect neighborhood can be the perfect place to hide… Who wouldn’t want to live in Brighton Hills? This exclusive community on the Oregon coast is the perfect mix of luxury and natural beauty. Stunning houses nestle beneath mighty Douglas firs, and lush backyards roll down to the lakefront. It’s the kind of place where neighbors look out for one another. Sometimes a little too closely…

Fun Twists & Unpredictable
Reviewed: 07-28-23
New author to me, so didn’t know what to expect but I really enjoyed this book. Read it in two days because I couldn’t put it down. Strong female characters and an unpredictable plot that kept me enthralled. I saw numerous reviews about the narration being poor, but this was not my experience at all. I did find that speeding up the recording to 1.2X from 1.0X made it easier to listen too, but I generally love Imogen Church as a narrator for any book. Highly recommend.

Fantastic read! Ruth Ware has hit another home run. I couldn’t put this one down. Great character development, excellent plot. I really liked the story a lot. Also, per usual, Imogen sets the bar for narration. She remains my favorite Audiobook narrator.

The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

Story
Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children. Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family.

Light, cute story. Mostly predictable but liked it anyway. The narrators left something to be desired. The male voice sounded angry the whole time and the female voice put a very distracting inflection at the end of her sentences. Once I noticed it I couldn’t unhear it and it bothered me.

On a day that begins like any other, Hal receives a mysterious letter bequeathing her a substantial inheritance. She realizes very quickly that the letter was sent to the wrong person - but also that the cold-reading skills she's honed as a tarot card reader might help her claim the money. Soon, Hal finds herself at the funeral of the deceased...where it dawns on her that there is something very, very wrong about this strange situation and the inheritance at the center of it. Full of spellbinding menace and told in Ruth Ware's signature suspenseful style, an addictive thriller.
